Gotta think Mac and Candyass are licking their chops at this thought... http://www.shermanreport.com/colin-cowh ... n-chicago/ Quote: Get ready to hear more Colin Cowherd on ESPN’s local stations. That could mean you, Chicago.
It’s a definite possibility. Much like it does with the Greenberg-Golic morning show, there is talk that ESPN wants to give Cowherd more visibility on its locally-owned stations. Chicago could be the next major market to get “The Herd,” whose show airs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. ET. Last Thursday, WMVP-AM 1000 fired Harry Teinowitz from its afternoon team that also includes Carmen DeFalco and John Jurkovic. It is expected that ESPN 1000 will shift the Tom Waddle-Marc Silverman duo from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. to afternoon drive. That would leave an opening to slide in Cowherd’s national show in the morning slot. |

If that is the start of their shakeup to the station then they will likely slip further down the ratings. 5am - 1pm national radio for the Chicago Market? Real bad. |

So if they make this move. What happens to Jurko and Carmen? Are they going to be fired next? |

This is essentially a return to what they were before Mc Neil arrived. He dragged that station kicking and screaming into a ratings success. I think it is just as profitable for them to have bad national shows and much less of a hassel. |

I want to campaign to get Skip Bayless a daily radio show. No, I'm not joking. I disagree with 97.665% of everything he says, but I do find him entertaining. |

ESPN national radio is probably good enough for your average to below average sports fan. |

Last week must have been the end of the fiscal year at ESPN. That's why all this shit is going down. The head of ESPN's radio division is making these calls. It's not the Chicago management. I thought they might stick Cowherd in Chicago. Somebody asked what happens to Carm and Jurko? Do the math. There ain't no more chairs. Either they're both gone or one gets to join Waddle and Silvy in afternoons. If one gets to stay, you gotta figure it would be Jurko. Carm and Silvy are basically the same person. I'll say they're both gone. Mac is gonna have a choice to make. Mitch will only allow him one. He either goes to bat for Jurko or for Harry. It will be Jurko. |

I'm a big Jurko fan, but I'm not sure a Mac & Jurko show would be that great. |

Kid, that's kinda how I feel about Cowherd. He has coherent thoughts, which is more than I can say about Mike & Mike. And I fully expect a Silvy, Waddle, and Jurko show in the afternoons. |

If they add him, they also might decide to give Scott Van pelt his full show. Maybe make the local afternoon show go from 3-7. So think about it. ESPN 1000 is gonna have it's staff of reporters to report for just one show? I know these reporters also write for ESPNChicago.com so maybe that justifies their existence. But it's also funny to think that ESPN 1000 will have a local management team for just one local show that matters. And a few evening shows when ESPN doesn't have games. But they just might go national at night as well. How well does ESPN 1000 do when the Cubs and/or Sox are pretty much playing every night. How well do evening radio shows do in general, no matter the format? Not very well. People watch TV at night. |

Mac will do what he wants and Spiegel will have to shut up. Cuz Spiegel realizes that he was saved by Mac. So he can't bitch if Mac wants to save Jurko. That being said, I don't know if Mac wants to split the money of his show 3 ways. I know I wouldn't if I were him. That's a factor that you have to consider. Mac already has a 2nd place show. How much better would they be with Jurko? Why would Mac want to see 100 or 150k of his show's money go to Jurko? |

If I'm not mistaken, when ESPN Radio 1000 AM was born in 1998, they only had 1 local show on its daily lineup at the beginning. I remember WMVP used to stay national following "Mike & Mike in the Morning" with Tony Kornheiser, based in Washington, DC, from 9A-Noon followed by Dan Patrick from Noon-3P Monday-Friday. That also included the king of dead air, Jim Rome, cutting into the final hour of Kornheiser's old show & the first 2 hours of Patrick's show from 11A-2P. Rome's show, which was syndicated via Premiere Radio Networks and based in Los Angeles, received so many complaints from BOTH Tony & Dan as well as so many listeners that ESPN 1000 bosses started to air Rome's show on tape delay and banished it to latenights. It was removed a few years ago entirely from WMVP's lineup while Rome ended his long-term partnership with Premiere Radio Networks. Jim has since relocated to the new CBS Sports Radio Network. |

Long time listener, first time caller.....I mean, long time TSMB gremlin..first time poster. ESPN will experiment with The Herd during middays, but if I were in charge, not only would ratings be worse, but I would keep an eye on J Goff's development down South and eventually get him back to take over local middays on WMVP. While also being in charge of WSCR, I would get rid of LoHo because I honestly cannot stand the guy and his shameless attempts to make himself seem like a baller when talking about his relations with the females in the industry (i.e. Cheryl Scott) and his female interns, and move Connor and Joe O to his slot. If I were to make both those moves happen, the only smart move to be made would be teaming Goff and LoHo to drive middays for ESPN. It'll never happen, ever. But it's just a thought. I loved Goff's time here in Chicago. Not a fan of LoHo, but they would make a reputable team to up the ante. |
