Wow, that is a thing. Kendall thinks he's a fighter. Hacky writing here, but good stuff. Comcast SportsNet Chicago Bulls analyst Kendall Gill has been temporarily removed from his on-air duties after a physical altercation with Big Ten Network analyst Tim Doyle in the CSN newsroom Tuesday evening. The incident followed the taping of "Sports Talk Live," a panel discussion on Comcast SportsNet Chicago that featured me, Mr. Doyle and Chicago Sun-Times reporter Herb Gould. Mr. Gill confronted Mr. Doyle in the newsroom over critical comments he had made on the air about Mr. Gill's analysis of the controversial final moments of Monday's Chicago Bulls-Denver Nuggets game. The referees ruled that what at first appeared to be a last-second basket by the Bulls would not be allowed, thus giving the win to the Nuggets. The altercation happened right in front of me as Mr. Doyle and I were walking through the CSN newsroom on our way out of the building. Mr. Gill approached Mr. Doyle and called him out for his comments, which escalated to a shoving match and ultimately Mr. Gill throwing a punch at Mr. Doyle. The two bumped up against a sign on the wall and a small amount of blood was drawn (though it was unclear exactly how) before the two were separated. "We're looking further into the incident that took place in our newsroom earlier today," said CSN Chicago news director Kevin Cross in a statement late last night. "Until the investigation is complete, Kendall Gill will not be appearing on our air." After Monday night's game, Mr. Gill said on the air that the call of basket interference against Bulls center Joakim Noah with 1.7 seconds left in overtime "was a very bad call on the officials' part," a point that Mr. Doyle, a frequent panelist on the show, refuted on air Tuesday evening. The two were also debating the topic before we went live in what appeared to be friendly banter. Mr. Gill, a former University of Illinois star and 15-year NBA veteran who had a short stint in boxing after his playing career, has been doing pregame and postgame live coverage of Bulls games on CSN Chicago. He has also been a contributor to the Big Ten Network. Mr. Doyle, who played for Northwestern from 2004 to 2007, has been a basketball analyst for the Big Ten Network since 2007. There's probably more to come on this story in the coming days, but don't be surprised if Mr. Gill is missing from CSN broadcasts before and after Thursday's Bulls game vs. Portland. I think anyone who watched the Big Ten Network would understand why you would want to punch Tim Doyle. |

But if annoying sports personalities are going to be in physical harm for their opinions on that show, Bernstein would have to wear a bullet proof vest. Actually, that would be quite the visual. |

Doyle is a penus, but he was right. The call was technically correct, and he acknowledged the officials mistakes in not being consistent with the review. Kendall Gill apparently takes his Twitter seriously. |

Is there any chance that Kendall could continue down his warpath and go take out Pat Boyle while he's at it? I'd watch one of those filler 30min "The Pat Boyle Podcast" shows if in the middle of the interview Kendall came in and just point blank coldcocked him. Then the thoroughly mediocre Susannah Collins could come over with $in her hand and start bouncing around and asking him stupid trivia questions which are easy to answer if you simply 1) wait for her to give you hints or my personal favorite 2) catch a quick peek at her card while she's doing her bouncing act and then collect your rightful $130. Either way, Kendall shouldn't stop there. Kaplan is the final boss in Kendall Gill's Punch Out! Get crackin KG! |

Really? Gill throws down on Doyle over a "Goal Tending" disagreement? Doyle is right, by the way. It was goal tending. I'm thinking there is more to this story. Maybe Doyle is a "Mike North type" like Big Fan suggested. Maybe he's made some racist comments that Gill has heard and that's why he fought him. If it really was just over goal tending, then Gill has severe issues. Did anybody watch the show? Was Doyle mean spirited towards Gill. Did he call him a dummy or something? |

C'mon. That's it? Dropping him on twitter is fighting words? People have said much worse things about me on this board and I don't want to fight any of you. I once had a date try to light me on fire and I didn't hold a grudge against her either. I think there is something to said about being able to take insults. I think it's a very important characteristic to have in life. |

Gill seems like a mild mannered guy when he does Bulls post. I don't remember him being a tough guy in the NBA. Doyle is kind of that wise ass, fast-talking New Yorker from the few times I've heard him on the Score. He does the B&B show during tourney time every year. I still say Gill and him probably had some other episode in their past. I'm sticking to thinking it was racial slur by Doyle while in Gill's presence at some point in their history. |

Gill probably made over 50 million in his NBA career. He played a long time and was a pretty decent player. Doyle could sue him and Comcast. I would. What the hell? Gill would settle and you could walk away with at least a million. |

It didn't happen on camera or anything, so he's good. It's not like he has a history with this sort of thing. He'll be given a leave, he'll issue an apology and all will be forgiven. |

If Kendall snuck up on him and smacked him with one of those Bulls hats with the horns on it, that would be different. They shoved, some punches were thrown. Let HR deal with it... |

You say let HR deal with it. But Doyle isn't an employee with Comcast. He doesn't care about Comcast HR. Gill will get punished but Doyle has every right to sue him. Doyle never got NBA money. He was white and bad. He's not a big media star either. He could use the million. |

I would agree if it's your friend or a co worker that you've gotten along and they're not filthy rich, you don't go to court. But if somebody with 50 million took a swing at me for no damn reason, I'm gonna sue. Especially if I really don't know him that well. I would assume that's the case with Gill and Doyle. |
