Update from Atlanta: 92.9 The Game came in last place – both for sports stations and overall - in the most recent Arbitron ratings. The Game did a 0.6 share. ATL is the country's 9th-largest market.

Surely that station is frustrated. Launch in October and don't even surpass either sports station in town. But how is Jason Goff doing? I've listened to "Mac and Jason" several times, I think they've developed a solid show. Goff seems to be coming into his own. Well-regarded ATL media critic Rodney Ho hosts a board on his website, and a lot of the feedback about the Game is highly negative, but the majority if not all of the positive comments are about Mac and Jason. So, I was originally going to pose the question of Goff possibly leaving the ATL sooner rather than later, but maybe he'll get bumped to middays or afternoon drive soon down there?

Good for Goff and the success their show is having.

Isnt it a brand new station?

It's a new station launched towards the end of Atlanta's prime sports interest season.

Ratings should be almost meaningless to Jason. He is there to find his voice and develop a style before moving to another market.

I met Rodney's brother Stank at a frat party in Athens.

I think it's too early to push the panic button regarding The Game SportsRadio down in Atlanta. Let's see if they improve their ratings in the summer ratings book.

Do you mean the "urban sports talk" subformat they had been hinting toward? Because sports talk isn't new to Atlanta.

I was referring to sports talk on that station.

That's quite the coincidence, for, as a swashbuckling young lion, I shared a quaint a motel room overlooking the I-294 expressway with her sister, Durtee.

Their cousin Ash is a douchebag.

Oh, well in that case, yes, it is new to that frequency. It had been their XRT before that, though without the tenure and commensurate brand equity (and without playing every track off Violator and Disintegration, lol).

If they haven't spent a lot of money promoting the station, then those are actually respectable numbers. And it really depends on how many males males 25-54 are listening anyway.

It was a great idea to bring a bunch of people who know nothing about Atlanta sports to talk about Atlanta sports. Jay's show has gotten a lot better. He could use a better partner. I think his show would be great in the evenings. From what Rodney Ho said, 92.9 The Game isn't going anywhere despite the poor ratings.

I thought his show was in the evenings?

My bad. I meant afternoon drive.

Where is this Rodney Ho blog where he talks about Jason?

My search led me to an old site.

Goff's going to be losing some air time. Maybe he can find his way into the afternoon drive.

The competition may be too edgy.

Quote:
The cast of an Atlanta sports radio show has been fired after mocking a former NFL player who has Lou Gehrig's disease, a station official said Monday.

The show, "Mayhem In The AM," was broadcast on 790 The Zone on Monday morning. In a statement, general manager Rick Mack said the station regrets comments made about former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason.

During the segment, two of the on-air personalities took a call from a third host who pretended to be Gleason by using a voice that sounded automated -- mimicking another ALS patient, world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking.

The host pretending to be Gleason told a series of jokes and eventually asked the two others to do him a favor by smothering him.
