PROGRAMMING SHAKEUP AT WGN RADIO per Robert Feder

Bill White out as program director of WGN Radio. Shakeup under way as new president and general manager Jimmy deCastro takes over news/talk station.

Leading candidate to replace White is Mitch Rosen, program director of the Score.

White joined WGN in January 2011, following debacle of Kevin "Pig Virus" Metheny. Latest Arbitron ratings show WGN ranked 20th among adults 25-54.

Used to be.

I'll buy you and Goggles lunch if GN hires Mitch.

Goggles already has lunch planned for that day

So, you dont think they go with Mitch?

What are the AM power rankings currently?

Why would bold leadership like de Castro and Wert go for Mitch? They don't have the same type of vision and Mitch was nothing but Chunga during the Loop days.

You can bet that Sir goes anywhere Mitch goes. I guess its a net gain if it gets Kaplan off the air.

Larry defines himself by working at the Score for a really long time. He was there before Mitch, and he'll be there after Mitch. Besides, a Bears/Sox guy is of little use to a Cubs/Hawks station.

Also, having been pushed out of the S-T, having quit WBEZ, and Time Out Chicago folding, does Feder even have an outlet anymore? or does he just stand on a street corner, telling anyone who will listen about "the 50,000-watt sports talker"?

Now, I hate to say dis' but Mitch Rosens on the crack rock.
I saw him suckin' dicks over on the hill top.
An' on the next night, I spotted that Mitch, in the alley, suckin' on another damn dick.
The stupid Program Director, like no other.
I know him now, he's what'cha-ma-call-her's boss.
He had hid jacket on when it was so fuckin' hot, but that's how it is when you're on the fuckin' crack rock.

Is Rosen left WSCR, would the new PD have any sack to challenge Beerstain?

To do what? Unless your answer has something to do with better ratings or revenue, then probably not.

That's what I was thinking. If they are happy with what he does I guess they wouldn't. I think the station would benefit from a little shuffling but Dan's entrenched as the mayor of the palace.

I think Mac will push for Tiny to become the new Program Director. He'll give Mac the afternoon drive slot, have Bernsie doing updates & voiceovers. Candyman will "fly" solo in the afternoons.

Mitch was Kevin Matthews water boy during the illustrious Wert/DeCastro years at the Loop. I have a hard time thinking they see him as much more that that today. Go find Jimmy "Bud" Wiser. That guy was the blueprint for producers when he was with Brandmeier. Hell, see what Shemp is up to. I don't see WGN going with Mitch.

So it takes DeCastro and Wert pulling down big money to figure out, "Hey, let's hire Mitch"

Once they hire Mitch, these guys have nothing left to do except contracts for the on air guys.

Have to say, would love to see Mac go to WGN and knock the Score down a few notches.

Zimmerman has had an upper hand in all negotiations as the leverage for most was just not there and Zimmerman could go back to the CBS execs with a "Look, I got him for less and kept the ratings"

All that said with a new option, Chet and North still dont get Jobs.

I have no idea. Tell Goggles I have him covered when he's famished. Just got a new mandolin for my birthday.

Mitch is the leader in the clubhouse. There has been lots of talk about WGN Radio increasing its sports programming & Mitch certainly has experience in that department. I & many others will be surprised if he doesn't get the job. I hope he does. Both WGN & the Score need a shake up & re-org.

Robert Feder reporting WGN has already offered its PD position to Mitch, but Mitch is staying at The Score.

Translation...The job was never offered.

Mitch is wired pretty tight with Reinsdorf's people. I'm somewhat surprised that Biggie has not mentioned this.

Looks like SHARK was caught napping on this one.

SHARK got totally scooped and got totally caught unaware of a huge story.....Hub Arkush would be proud.

Mitch is quoted as saying so and it was one of the hardest decisions of his career, so yes, the job was offered.

I stand corrected Nerd. However I still feel the collective lunch ddecisions from the old Kevin Mathews shows were more difficult.

How does a PD turn down an offer from one of the greatest & most famous AM radio stations in the world? The real losers are the listeners to both stations. It would have been great to see & hear the changes that would have taken place, & need to take place at both WGN & WSCR.
