I'm listening to the stream. Not bad. I've always been a Hood fan and Dickerson is solid in a Randazzler/Conor Mc Doink way.

If Hood is this solid talent that many think he is, do any of you more knowledgeable folks think he should be in line for a morning/afternoon co-hosting spot? With Harry mercifully gone, and since Carmen seems to take a lot of heat, is there a way Hood finds himself on the early show? Between his current slot and the Carmen/Jurko slot, which slot is better if you've got ambitions to make more of a name for yourself?

Hood got fucked in the ass when he was paired with Telender many years ago. He was poised to make the jump but got a stiff ramrod up his radio career bunghole, instead.

The then shot himself in the foot by not taking his lumps and acting like a professional during Telender's reign of bad radio.

Hood is solid, but he's what, 41 now? I'm thinking that his chances are all dried up, maybe some people higher up on the totem pole remember his lack of professionalism on the Telender show.

I think he has the Goff Effect going on, in that he is solid but everyone goes gaga over him because he doesn't yet have a primetime slot so his wrinkles aren't as evident.

Here is another angle on it

I can't disagree with much of the negative things said about Hood in that thread. I don't think he's particularly well spoken and he seems to get pissy pretty quickly with callers who disagree with him. Once in a while I'll tune in, and much like with Laurence, I'll think he's not that bad and then he'll act like a dick in some way or another, either by putting down a caller or ripping on a co-worker (former co-worker living in another state in Laurence's case) or someone from another station.

Not a likable person, IMHO.

*edit*

Oh, years ago when he was producing for B&B, if he did something that got a laugh or positive reaction from them he'd do it over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and quickly kill any humor it once had. He reminded me of a little kid who desperately wanted the attention of the grown-ups and when he finally got it he immediately beat whatever it was that got their attention into the ground.

I always liked Hood. I tend to forget he is on as I will only go to 1000 if WSOX is broadcasting on der Schnore. His shows are decent. I'm not clamoring for him but he'd be better than Larry at night or the bland white muppets that get shows on the weekends.

I'm pretty much in agreement here with everything except the thoughts about him being an unlikable guy. Perhaps he is unlikable - I just haven't listened to him enough to have an opinion either way.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Telender was good. We all no he was lousy. I just think the point is that Hood has a limited intelect. He can debate the common sports issues like every guy at your local bar.

Who should start at QB

What do you think of this trade

Who should win coach of the year

But when an issue arises with a little more substance, Hood is confused, awkard, and out of his league. I think the ability to go deeper then the basic sports conversation is what seperates good hosts from bad hosts.

This pretty much captures the way I feel whenever it is I do have him on. But I don't think this is evidence of "limited intellect," it's just that maybe he feels his chosen discussion level is best to foster the type of discussion he feels his listeners want from a sports radio show.

Telander was a big, bold move by Mitch in a career of small, uninspired decisions. Bringing in name sportswriters to resurrect the sinking Score ratings was going to be Mitch's signature move into the higher corporate world. Hood pissed on it, even though it was ultimately destined for failure on its own. So Hood will never get a job at the Score while Mitch is the GM. I think Mitch also dragged his name through the mud in the industry so that he is left on the periphary until someone decides to take a chance on him.

I think he would be an excellent replacement for Terry with Bernstien.

Yep. Hood pouted and stamped his feet on his way to never having a full time, prime time gig.

He could have taken his lumps and such but he loudly pissed and moaned behind the scenes and ON THE ACTUAL SHOW....not good.

I think he would have been able to weather things if it stayed behind the scenes. Everyone would agree that he got a raw deal after working his way up from programming to on air and finally to a prime day part only to have a disinterested interloper get the name of the marque. However, he torpedoed the show on air. That was a cardinal sin.

Totally agree. If that shit was kept private/off mic he would still have the plentiful sympathy of the native staff, I'm sure they weren't happy with some zero experience clown coming in and screwing the natural order things.

When did that show collapse? 2005? Didn't it get canned out of the blue, as well?

I'm pretty sure Mitch wasn't the program director who hired Telander. That was Drew Hayes and one of his cronies.

Mitch was brought in AFTER the station was sinking as a result of the Telander debacle, the heavy dose of syndicated programming on the weekends, etc.

Mitch's reign began by making weekend programming live and local (a trend that now seems to be getting reversed under the rule of the CBS Sports Radio network), reinstating the Grobber as host of Score overnights, and reeling Mac back to the Score.

Pretty sure it was 2005, the same year the show started. Telander quit over the airwaves, and Mully was then brought in to fill the void.

I don't normally get a chance to listen (work), but I'm a fan of the show.
Hood is similar to Holmes, but much less annoying.
