Wow. I didn't know WGN 720 pays 10 million a year for the Cubs. Well, they're telling the Cubs to slash the price. Nobody is listening to 100 loss seasons. I think the Score only pays 3 million per year for the Sox.

That's a remnant of Tribune Company transfer pricing.

Probably. But 10 million might be the right price for a good Cubs team. Even a .500 team. Especially when you consider they have a lot of games close to week day drive time unlike most teams.

That's why the Cubs want more night games. Cuz the TV money for those night games is more than the radio money. They lose on TV money because of those day games.

I think Ricketts agreed that the Trib would still own like 3% of the Cubs for 5 years or so before they let Tom completly have it all. I remember reading that somewhere.

I did not listen to ONE Cub game this year. Usually I listen while on my way to work or outside doing housework. Good Job Theo and Co. Can't wait to see what year 3 brings. WGN already has me wishing for the Andy Griffin Show. Maybe next I'll delete CSN from my favorites during baseball season.

"Given the terms of their broadcast contracts, the Cubs couldn't have picked a worse time to descend into one of the worst declines in franchise history."

Really. Smart. People? Maybe Theo and Julian Green can meet up at Jimmy DeCastro's synagogue!

There are lots of things to consider when you plan to tank on purpose. I can see Big Joe Ricketts turning red in the face and muttering about his idiot kids and their Jewish henchmen.

I wonder how the Hawks do for WGN.

I believe WGN and the Hawks have a revenue-sharing agreement rather than straight rights fees (White Sox) or brokering (Hawks on 670), so I'm guessing it's a win-win situation. I know ratings and billing took a hit for them during the lockout last fall.
