This really does put the Score on notice. Half assed produced shows, segments, contests, events, etc will now cost them if the "THE GAME" does them well. |

It might be a joke now but WGN and DeCastro do not fuck around. I guess it is some 6 months or so and they spin of Trib or something and then they can buy a real frequency. Then they will go hard to compete. It is the score's birth all over. Guys friendly to fans and no stupid national shit due to depaul games etc. eventually. |

It's local with a big name and real financial backing. It also blocks The Score from all Tribune guys. It's real. |

I liked Spike & Harry after listening to them today. If Mac refers to Led Zepplin or his HS buddies shwang,I have no problem switching to Kaplan. Hell,I'll listen to Brandmeir in the morning too. I'm hooked. |

LMAO. Look at all these comments. Don't you think DeCastro and all the really smart people don't read this board to find a market? Geez I should be a radio exec. Mitch and so on ignored our pleas. No even if it takes a while change will come. |

Not trying to invalidate your premise, doc, but does anyone really tune in specifically to hear tribune guys, or any newspaper guys? The democratization of publishing powers, combined with the relative ease by which just about anyone can have a good thought about sports, has really called into question the usefulness of traditional newspaper coverage of local sports teams beyond compiling quotes or breaking a semi interesting story once in awhile. For example, and I've said it before, but you can't get the bears bulls etc. commentary you get here elsewhere, imo. I'd much rather log in here following a big game or major development than tune into the game to hear the vapid David Haugh. So if I'm listening to the game, I'm going to judge it against the quality of insight I get here and on the web, irrespective of whether some outdated newspaper guys are featured as guests. But then again I don't know if their target audience feels the same way I do about traditional media establishments like the trib. I can guarantee most do in my age group though. |

Nobody listens for Tribune guys. It's just less content and more Bob from Niles. You don't look for it but it's less interesting. |

The Game name is kinda lame. They should go with something like "Chicago Sportsradio 87.7, The Game". I look forward to watching this thing ramp up. DeCastro is no slouch & once they get on a real frequency, look out. |

Um, there's already a station with "Chicago's Sports Radio" as a positioner. You don't think CBS lawyers would pounce on that right away? Like I said in some other thread, I'd brand it as "WGN Sports 87-Seven" (saying "point" can be cumbersome between two "seven"s) and play up the fact that it's the Cubs and Blackhawks in FM audio. Well, crackling FM audio, I guess. |

pittmike wrote: no stupid national shit due to depaul games That reminds me...is there some rule that states that a radio station must tell listeners if a team has to pay the station for airtime vs. getting paid for the broadcast rights? A couple times I've caught the tail-end of a DePaul game (not intentionally of course) and both times the announcer gave the embarrassing disclaimer that DePaul paid the Score to broadcast the game. It's bad enough their team has negative advertising value, but to have that fact told to listeners makes it even more of an insult. If it's not a rule, I wonder why they would say it. |

Sorry I didn't see this 'til now ... it's Clerks ... at some point in that scene he mutters some unintelligible word that, to me, sounds something like "skerlnik" and that guy's last name just made me think of it and it was time to post for my own amusement to see if anyone else was mentally damaged enough to make the same connection ... congratulations! |

I don't remember such a disclaimer for the Blackhawks when they were on the Score and brokered their airtime. I suspect NIU buys their time, too. The truth is that a lot of sports teams here and beyond are brokered or have profit-sharing agreements rather than the station paying a rights fee. I can see that disclaimer being necessary for infomercials where the claims and opinions may not necessarily reflect those of [station], but this is just a factual account of an event. I don't think DePaul has to disclaim that they bought the time. DePaul doesn't have to fucking suck at basketball, either, but they elect to do that. |
