I know you monitor these things, Spmack. How many people from THE SCORE congratulated Connor? And did we ever get the final count on those that congratulated Finfer on twitter? Was it the same as the day he left which was ZERO?

I don't follow Connor so I am not sure......but I know that Drinky has not....not on Twitter, anyway. :D

Unlike Finfer, I think McNight should have stayed at the Score. I think he was next in line to get Larry's night show when Larry gets Mac's show.

Now he's doing nights at a station that's gonna be the 3rd sports talker for quite some time.

I doubt the money could be that much more than he was making at the Score. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Tribune Company is throwing good money at these guys trying to build the station while they take a loss for a couple of years.

Finfer was a no brainer move. He was a producer. But I think Connor is now at a place where nobody will ever hear him.

Finfer got the better time slot over Connor as well.

You forget for these young guys the key is to get on the air as much as possible and if you have a regular shift you are hirable anywhere in the country. Fuck Goff got a good gig off part time.

Yep. A relatively young guy who has had a regular show in the WGN brand has a pretty nice looking resume to shop around.

Young and CHEAP guy at WGN on a station that is going to grow, he isnt going anywhere.

I think Connor might even be a better regular talk show guy than sports, he isnt such a good sports guy

by this metric, it'll be ok for me to start a new proper listening thread when his show starts, eh?

anyways i just had one of my cheerios whisper to me to be careful cuz my milk just came, so i'm going to avoid having toast this morning on what will go down in chicago/world history as "mcdoink day" - feb 28th. leap years are just jealous haters.

working for the score probably sucks dick. i would jump at the opportunity for a start up station that has good financial backing too.

I have consistently listened to McDoink since he debuted on the Score. I have yet to hear him articulate an original opinion. Everything he says can first be consumed by listening to B&B or reading Fangraphs, the Tribune, SI and other publications. Not sure why anyone would want to hire the guy.

Persuading McKnight and Finfer to come over to The Gong is somewhat akin to getting Murph and the Magictones to quit the Holiday Inn engagement. DeCastro and Wert still have to get Blue Lou and Matt Guitar Murphy (Grote and Randazzo) and Mr. Fabulous (Holmes) to walk away from those high paying gigs.

That's funny. That's like not watching channel 7's news because there's nothing there you can't also see on channel 2. The catchword here is "coverage"; they need a voice on every time slot. If its a voice with an original thought, great, that'll up the slot's ratings.

No Connor tonight. Some other guy I don't know is witch the regular host whom I don't know.

So Connor isn't the full time night host? What else is he doing at this station?

this station has like 25 different people on the air. the only one that doesn't sound like all the others is Harry. How do you make Harry sound GOOD?

I'm not really sure what your point is. People have been tuning out the news on channels 7 and 2 for years due to the internet. Local news shows are getting cut as are the salaries of local newspeople. The catchwords here are immediacy and novelty, not coverage.

Why hire another boring middle class white guy with opinions plucked from a handful of mainstream media websites and newspapers? Christ, it's only a late-night slot. Take a chance on someone who might approach radio in a somewhat original way rather than continuing to feed Chicago sports fans recycled Score stupidity.

Like Murph always said the sign in Tribune's executive bathroom read, "Risk Aversion At All Costs."

So it's Saturday mornings for Connor and he's a part of the rotation on that weeknight show?

Connor went to THE GAME to do the same things he was doing at THE SCORE?

That doesn't make sense.

Maybe Jimmy DeCastro is a better boss than Rod Zimmerman. Of course, Draco was a better boss than Rod Zimmerman.

I am interested to see what develops out of all of this. Who will take Connor and Finfer's spots? What is the direction of WGN's sports venture? There is a lot to figure out here. I think if the Score rests on its laurels they will be in trouble. What's hard for me is that there are some interesting conversations on the Score that I think the other stations lack;however, there is still too much negativity in terms of caller interaction/presentation and that could be the type of thing that pulls listeners away. Whether 'GN actually gets a solid program lineup remains to be seen, but it could give the others a run for their money if they really put some effort behind it. Whether or not you like the moves the Game has made, it seems to me that some people (Harry and Spike, Brandmeier) could be seat warmers if the station is serious about trying to appeal to a younger audience.

While I know that despite the Blackhawks, the teams in Chicago lack in championship caliber and it is easy to find fault with them. I do not think talent needs to be "rah-rah" types, but there is a point where being overly negative can turn listeners off. That said, criticism, as long as constructive and informative, can make for good give and take on the radio. Also, let's be honest. There are meathead callers who deserve to be called to the carpet every now and then. Still, a producer should see through the idiocy if he catches it and keep callers like that off the air. The direction the sports talkers in Chicago decide to take could make for some interesting programming decisions in the near future.

You know, most of McDoink's facebook pictures are public. He doesn't look like a geek to me. He looks like a bro from Waukesha County.

I wonder if Ten Foot Midget is still sitting next to his phone sobbing because he is seemingly unwanted even by Score personality standards.

Special moment tonight as LoHo came back from vacation to address the McKnight defection.

2 minutes worth checking out the podcast if you want to hear some vintage Loho.

-I talked to him before he made the decision (of course)
-I let him know that you don't want to go up against "this thing" ("this thing" being the LoHo show)
-J Hood is my brother but I will slit his throat (I assume professionally)
-I'm proud to count Connor on "my tree"

Now, when you think McKnight, do you think that's a guy on the Laurence Holmes Tree? It was awesome.

Because he did updates on Larry's show, Larry says he's on his "tree"? What? He also did updates for B&B. Why don't they get to claim him? Not that Bernstein wants to claim anybody. He looks down at everybody at the Score.

You gotta be some kind of special ego-maniac douche to actually say that.

Larry: That's me!!!

CSFMB: We know.
