Yeah, but you have to be in shape, relatively young, pass a drug test, willing to work & live  in....the city. Almost no one here qualifies. Not even sure about the lurking "talent".

Probably a good idea to take it while you're young so 10 years after the test when you file a lawsuit about how unfair it is that you didn't pass and are now fat and out of shape, they'll hand you the job.

I haven't had a job I had to punch a clock for since I was 19. I really couldn't imagine having a job now where I had to be at a particular location all day. Being a fireman is a different animal.

Not bragging. You get so used to the freedom that you don't want to give it back. Besides I would have a hard time being a single dad. I would probably have to live with my girlfriend or be more serious and right now I just don't want to do that.

Sources are telling me three-alarm fire imminent at Division and Chicago.

Now that's a better picture. I can blame the media for me questioning his sexuality.

There really is nothing not to like about being a fireman. Good pay. Great benefits. Get to sleep in a big room with a bunch of big burly dudes and play grab ass all day. The dangerous days are few and far between but you are being compensated well because those days are life threatening.

I was down by the fire station in River North at Illinois and Dearborn recently, and these guys just sit out there all night, and get pictures with gorgeous women all slutted up for a night on the town. Pretty nice job if you ask me.

It's definitely a nice place to work at.

I've got a buddy who is a fireman in a small town in the south suburbs. Most of his day is spent watching movies. They just do mega-marathons with netflix and DVDs.

Now I could definitely be a fireman in one of the south suburbs.

A guy who went to grade and high school with became a fireman. He was a really bright guy and probably could have gone into a field that payed better. I asked him about it and he said he would be retired by 55 with a great pension (maybe not now) and low stress. A guy in the neighborhood is an engineer who became a fireman. Guys at the Score though, that job is just beneath them.

I never knew a fireman or paramedic in Chicago that didn't have another job/biz to add to his salary and pension. One on two off fireman? Could do it.

They normally do work between 9-5 and then it is pretty much just hanging out. Time is spent cooking, cleaning, fixing things up, and other stuff. They are almost completely self sufficient so there is still a lot of other work to be done.

He wasn't serious Good Dolphin.

It was in reference to NSJ's snarky question when Darkside posted a job opp some years back.

I know they have work to do around the firehouse (waxing the pole etc) but a lot of there job is kiling time.

Score one for the Igeneration there. Soooooo many more options (internet, phone, 1000s of cable channels etc) to pass time now then there were even 15 years ago
