I know I have stated it before but it bears repeating as he is still underutilized, I love Jay Hood's work. He is the right amount of funny and serious. He can speak with knowledge on at least 3 and probably 4 of the big sports. He is appreciative of his listeners without being a pushover. He's simply the best host in the city right now.

My travels in humility took me to the home of Neil last night. This provided me plenty of listening time on my drive home. It was a fun listen. He flayed Paul George without having to be heavy handed about it. He talked college football in depth.

SOMEBODY GET THIS GUY A DRIVE TIME SHOW!.

It's pretty amazing that he's buried where he is, and sadly it'll be fewer full shows when Bulls season starts back up. Never underestimate that Hood can actually talk, which seems to be lacking in a lot of the WSCR bench/tryouts (though Mannelly at least can do that much)

He doesnt DESERVE anything anymore, he had an amzing chance to do something and blew it.

Let me even add , he was kind of s dick to me personally a couple of times.

Black man, kind of a dick to me, me saying he has had chances .......

but he is really good and what he does and if he had a normal hours show it would probably be really good and I would listen.

Is the some of the backlash/lack of a regular gig due to him bailing and going over to webio?

The guy is serious about his craft too. I was at his house earlier this year and he had about 5 televisions in his basement and they were all on different sport. He was kinda keeping up with all of them too.

I worry about his weight. He's gotta take care of that before it's too late

I agree with all the pro Hood stuff though. He's probably funnier than any host in the city in recent years

right, how many chances has Mac gotten simply because he has talent?

Was Hood's amazing chance at the Score being saddled with Doug Buffone and Rick Telander (and his guitar)?

Didn't mean backlash by people here, just meant the lack of success and love by station managers.

I'm definitely a fan. Nobody talks hoops better in Chicago than Hood.

When he slimmed down it was too late
So even at a reduced weight
He had already sealed his....fate

Post subject:  Re: Jay Hood

Hood brought his failure on himself. He didnt lose a gig because he was bad.

And while the comparisons to Mac in the self inflcited wounds , fact is that Hood never got ratings before he fucked up his own show. So he had nothing to fall back on.

Hood spent the whole show ripping Telander, it got to be all he did. Telander even called Hood out on the show, asking if Hood had a problem with him because every comment Telander made, Hood brought it back to old white NU grad living in Lake Forest. It was an amazingly uncomfortable show. Buffone was just kind of there, he didnt even know what to say after a while.

The plan of that show was to make Telander the star and ride his name. Like it or not, Hood fucked it up. It was a major investment by a station, it wasnt just a tryout of a radio show.

Making that kind of mistake defined his career.

Him and Spiegs should have a weight loss battle.

Telander was terrible. WSCR was at fault for putting him on any show. After North moved to mornings I would have been fine with Hood and Buffone. Hood and Bernstein were great together too. I would have preferred them to be paired with one another.

Post subject:  Re: Jay Hood

Not defending telander at all, he wasnt a good listen and I think they had him running the show, but Hood was brutal on the guy. Given that chance for Hood, you need to actually do some work and figure out a way to make it work.

Create a segment of "CALL ONE OF RICKS FRIENDS"....something more than ripping the wealthy older white guy, that was about as dumb as he could have played it.

whoa, home boy too big is living large

I have a feeling Jay doesn't play well with others or management either so no one will stick their neck out for him

He's not THAT much older than Sir, Goff and drinky but more accomplished than them.

Hood and Bernstein was a GREAT pairing. Jay was sufficiently knowledgeable to have Dan's respect and he definitely put Dan on edge with racial stuff.

The wealthy older white guy WHO WAS SPECIFICALLY PLACED THEIR BY MANAGEMENT. Sure it sucked, but that's the breaks. It would be like Vito Corleone going scorched earth when Fanucci put his nephew to work at Genco's grocery. You aren't going to win that battle and you might just get yourself killed

Hood got the time slot he wanted, he ahd the mic and 2 guys who if you brought them any idea, they would have done it, because neither of them thought of anything.

The one thing I have seen amongst all Radio guys is the distinction between the host and the producers. When you become a host, you are no longer able to think of segments for your own show.

The most recent furious five segment on the NEW MIDDAY SHOW, is the product of hours of meeting and thought. :D

I like Hood but always forget he still has a show. I may hear it once every 3-5 months if I ever switch to ESPN at night. The station is too vanilla for my liking. I'd actually switch to THE GAME before going to 1000. I also tend to assume, like I do with WSCR in spring-fall, some boring baseball broadcast is being aired on ESPN.

Station managers and execs are afraid of outspoken black guys.

Ask Goff or Hood.
