Does this drive anyone else crazy? His lisp is very difficult to listen to. I thought people with speech impediments generally don't get jobs speaking on the radio.

Not at the Score. They look for guys that can't talk. They want stutterers, lisps, nasally and poor grammatical speakers. drinky, Herb and Shep just to name a few.

Bernstein must hate Shep. Not cuz of the lisp, but he has the thickest Chicago accent at the station. Bernstein hates this kind. Bernstein has often said the "Thick Chicago accent people" are dying off. Well, Shep is pretty young so he's wrong.

I plan on outliving bernstein with his regular consumption McGangbangs and his Waffle House binges.

Also, I rather enjoy Shep's sibilance.

You know how bernstein has made it a thing to mock the stupid of chicago by doing his Chicago accent and saying something like "Da bears need Dick Butka to give da Bears a speech."

So, of course, everybody at the station does it now.

Well, drinky and Zawaski do it. I say to myself, boys, you have Chicago accents. Not the real thick Mike North one. But they have it.

Shepkowski did it once on his weekend show only it was his exact same voice. Only louder. Cracked me up.

These guys have no idea that they are mocking themselves.

bernstein has one himself. He has just very consciously modified it by carefully overpronouncing each and every word he speaks.

yeah he has an accent TOOOOO.

Hasn't he said his mom is from Buffalo? No fuckin' way you're getting through life without a Great Lakes accent if you have family from Buffalo. Western New Yorkers sound like people doing impressions of Chicago accents but that's just the way they always talk.

What about Dustin Rhoades? The first time I heard him on air I seriously thought it was Robert Smigel as a Superfan!

Everyone who grew up in Cook Co has the accent. Sometimes it's thicker depending on the person but there are pronunciations unique to it. Dan does it, Terry does it, I do it.

Listening to Oregonians all day then flicking on Chicago Sports Radio really highlights it.

What is an Oregon accent like? It has to be perfectly neutral, right? Maybe a hint of southern California from transplants?

LOLing at "annunciation," by the way.

Zawaski mocking chicago guys with accents is kinda funny.

You can also add Hub and Hamp to that list.

On WGN Radio, Wally Phillips had the "whistling 'S' " going for him. The beginning of a Chicago broadcasting tradition!

Mother Angelica, who did the rosary with her nuns on radio, also had it going on. Had to do with loose-fitting dental.

There is no Oregon accent. The mispronounce 'Chicago' a lot... "Oh hey America, youre from CheecawwwGO?"

Why?

The word is "enunciation." Annunciation is some Catholic thing.

Annunciation also means to announce. You're right, but so am I.

No you aren't. He's not making announcements.

Announcements and proclamations, sure he is. I'm not going to play semantics with you. Your word works better, I'll give you that. But my word isn't wrong.

Anyway, the point being, Shep has a speech impediment and has no business announcing, speaking, whatever, on the air.

So is Shep clearly announcing the immaculate conception of the Lord Jesus Christ or isn't he?

My middle school English teacher had "ENUNC 8" on her license plates. I can't recall if she handled the school announcements, though.
