2.1 for the Score, 1.4 for 1000. Other notables include XRT going up from a 3.0 to a 3.6, V103 taking a hit from 6.5 to 5.8, 87.7 steadily rising up to 1.8, WLS-AM dropping to a nice even 1.0, and WGN taking the tumble I knew they would take after playoff hockey was off the books. Still, they only went from 4.3 to 3.7. I figured it'd be much worse.

Here's Feder on the rise of Don't Call It Oldies 104.3, with some interesting notes on PPM signal processing:

Quote:
More than four years after CBS Radio relaunched WJMK FM 104.3 as K-Hits, the classic hits outlet is finally hitting it big.

In Nielsen Audio ratings released Monday, the station surged into the top five with its best performance to date. But some critics said there was a catch.

For the period from June 18 to July 15, K-Hits ranked fourth overall with a 4.1 percent share and cumulative weekly audience of 1,565,200. It also ranked fourth among listeners between 25 and 54 with a 4.2 share and 766,200 cume. One year ago, it was languishing in 16th place overall and 17th in the adult demo.

The station’s strongest showing was in middays, where Jeffrey T. Mason finished second overall and led the market in three key male demographics — 18 to 34, 18 to 49, and 25 to 54. Just last May the station officially named Mason permanent replacement for legendary midday personality Tommy Edwards, who had retired the previous fall.

Competitors were quick to point out that K-Hits is among CBS Radio stations here utilizing Voltair, an audio-processing device that boosts the detection of encoded broadcast signals by Nielsen Audio’s Portable People Meters. At a national webinar for radio clients in July, Nielsen Audio said it did not support the use of Voltair, but stopped short of banning it.

CBS Radio Chicago programming executives declined to comment.

I wish Feder could have said Nielsen didn't support the use of Voltair but would fight to the death for stations' right to use it.

In morning drive, Mully and Hanley made the top ten:

Quote:
1) WBBM AM 780/WCFS FM 105.9 (simulcast) Felicia Middlebrooks and Pat Cassidy 10.0 (9.9)
2) WTMX FM 101.9 Eric Ferguson and Kathy Hart 7.1 (6.7)
3) WVAZ FM 102.7 Steve Harvey 5.9 (6.3)
4) WGN AM 720 Steve Cochran 5.8 (6.0)
5) WOJO FM 105.1 Raul Molinar, Sylvia del Valle and Andres Maldonado 4.0 (4.1)
6) (tie) WBEZ FM 91.5 NPR Morning Edition; Morning Shift with Tony Sarabia 3.4 (3.2)
6) (tie) WDRV FM 97.1 Pete McMurray and Dan McNeil 3.4 (3.6)
8) WJMK FM 104.3 Dave Fogel 3.3 (2.8)
9) WSCR AM 670 Mike Mulligan and Brian Hanley 3.2 (2.9)
10) WKQX FM 101.1 Brian Phillips and Lou Lombardo 3.0 (2.7)

I'm tied with Steve Inskeep, Chicago!

But in afternoons, our fearless reporter of loud voices and big boobs did not:

Quote:
1) WVAZ FM 102.7 Doug Banks 5.1 (5.8)
2) WTMX FM 101.9 Koz (Kevin Koske) 4.8 (4.8)
3) (tie) WGCI FM 107.5 DJ MoonDawg (Michael Muniz) 4.4 (4.2)
3) (tie) WKSC FM 103.5 Brady Broski 4.4 (4.7)
5) (tie) WBBM AM 780 Kris Kridel and Keith Johnson; Cubs baseball 3.7 (3.7)
5) (tie) WBBM FM 96.3 Dougie Stylz and Justin Roman 3.7 (3.9)
7) WJMK FM 104.3 Gary Spears 3.6 (3.9)
8) (tie) WKQX FM 101.1 Walter Flakus 3.4 (3.4)
8) (tie) WXRT FM 93.1 Marty Lennartz; Jason Thomas 3.4 (2.9)
10) WLIT FM 93.9 Mick Lee 3.7 (3.6)

But good for Marty Lennartz coming out of semi-retirement and cracking the top ten. "Brady Broski" still makes me laugh.

No, the other kind of nut, like Jagger.

No, cumulative. Still, it says something when Mully and Hanley, the sportsiest of sports talkers and old-white-guy-iest of old white guys, can make the top ten overall in the most competitive daypart while Boers and Bernstein, who are in theory able to talk about more than sports, cannot in theirs, a slightly less competitive daypart.

WSCR should own the Score every quarter, but they dont.

From Larz' site...
For the Afternoon Drive hours of 3:00pm-7:00pm, WTMX-FM is #1 with a 5.6 share. WVAZ-FM is again #2 with a 5.3 share. #3 is WKSC-FM with a 4.8 share. WGCI-FM is #4 with a 4.3 share, closely followed by WBBM-FM with a 4.2 share. For Women 25-54, the #1 radio station in afternoons is again WTMX-FM with an 8.1 share. For Men 25-54, the #1 station is WSCR-AM with a 4.5 share.

It also appears that the demise of The Score is greatly exaggerated...

The daytime "prime hours" of 6:00am-7:00pm sees WTMX-FM still #1 with a 6.9 share, with WVAZ-FM at #2 with a 5.6 share. WKSC-FM and WOJO-FM tie at #3 with a 4.1 share. Right behind that is a two-way tie for #5 between WSHE-FM and WJMK-FM, each with a 4.0 share. For those hours, WTMX-FM is #1 with Women 25-54 with a 9.7 share, as well as with Men 25-54 with a 4.6 share. (WSCR-AM was a close #2 for Men 25-54 with a 4.5 share.)

And a rapidly approaching Football season as well as possible Cub play-off race will only improve those numbers.

And head-to-head, even Speigs & Goff are doing well. Only Larry/White Sox are lagging.

For Men 25-54, the hotly contested rivalry with the most interest is the battle between WSCR-AM/670 The Score and WMVP-AM/ESPN Chicago 1000. After mostly losing the battle for the last few months, WSCR-AM is now winning once again overall and with all three of the daytime dayparts, as well as weekends. WMVP-AM only wins in evenings. Overall, WSCR-AM is #8, compared to WMVP-AM's #10. In mornings, WSCR-AM beats WMVP-AM #5 to #7. In middays, WSCR-AM beats WMVP-AM #3 to #6. In afternoons, WSCR-AM beats WMVP-AM #1 to #4. In evenings, WMVP-AM beats WSCR-AM #12 (tie) to #22.

hey dont knock my new signature quote! clearly biggie means that the score is truly owned by the people as it is unquestionably THE PEOPLE'S STATION providing THE VOICE OF THE FAN just like it boasted all the way back in 1992!

of course, as i've said b4 the biggest and most fervent fans are the owners (because they put their $$$ where ur mouth is [read: up a team's ass]) so bernstein has been trailblazing in providing a voice to the previously-voiceless biggest minority in sports fandom, cuz what % of fans own the damn team? (get that packers shit out of here i'm talking real/non-gimmicky sports franchises not some franchise that gets a superstar QB every generation or 2 and rattles off a super bowl or 2 every ~15yrs)

so yeah TLDR = WSCR = the people's station! WSCR corporate likes to front like they're a CBS/VIACOM enterprise but at the end of the day they know who MATTERS. everyone knows who pays their bills.... their true owners; the fans!

Well, CBS is publicly traded, so I guess the Score is the people's station, or some people's station. Maybe if we buy enough stock, we can be the loud voice in the room telling Dan Bernstein to do a week of shows about FieldTurf.

I must be a horrible barometer of what people like, because the less I listen to WSCR the more popular it seems to get.

oh yeah i'm sure when the heads of major media corporations get their orders from shadowy people on video screens (akin to nick fury of SHIELD in avengers/cap'n-america movies, or like the ppl tasked with dealing with the deathklok problem) in metalocalypse who (presumably) get their orders str8 from the illuminati (or whoever you wanna call "them") i'm 100.0% without-a-shadow-of-a-doubt positive that they take into account what tehir shareholders think! yeah its not like "just as long as they make some $$$ on the stock they're ok" --- surely those people all have important voices/opinions that must be heard because its not just fiscal responsibility/gain, it's TOTAL CONTENT CONTROL that we the shareholders have! huzzah!

TLDR = my hat is shiny and looks like a bitchin' tugboat and yeah i think THE POWERS THAT BE =/= shareholders, or "the people" in any way shape form or denomination. >we didnt go and invent america 200+ years ago to get away from the king in favor of "rule by elite" just so some of the great unwashed could buy a few shares and have a say in how the world works. sit down STFU drunk your beer and be overjoyed that >we/>they allow you to live here.... cuz it's a members only club and guess what? you are SO not a member =P

Let's stop talking about Terry's Peeps for two minutes and take a look at the August books. They appear to be more or less the same as July, other than a market correction for 104.3 (4.1 to 3.6) and a big jump for the Mix (5.0 to 5.6).

http://ratings.radio-online.com/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb005

Score's ahead of 1000 2.0 to 1.4. 87.7 has probably hit its ceiling at 1.8, but that's not a bad ceiling for the format and frequency.

890 is up to a 1.2, presumably on the heels of Trumpamania. Damn, really wanted to see them fall below 1.0.
