Zim: Can you believe this Barney Rubble motherfucker wants $500k and demands a move to afternoon drive? Surprised he hasn't asked for the call letters to be changed to WMAC.

Mitch:

Zim: Fuck him. We'll be WCUB in a couple of years anyhow.

Mitch: What will we do with middays?

Zim: We'll try an experiment to show Fucking Mac what he is really worth. We'll leave Grimace there and find a cheap replacement. Let's start with that long snapper guy.

Mitch: What about the ratings? Mac always brought huge ratings?

Zim: Huge? Give me a break. We'll save the $500k and ratings will barely change. All the knuckle draggers tune in by habit like Pavlov's dogs.

Mitch: OK. Should be interesting.

Zim: We'll give Mannelly a short leash. Remember that Goff guy that went to Atlanta?

Mitch: The producer?

Zim: Dumb fucker got busted for taking free salsa so they fired his dumb ass. We could get him really cheap.

Mitch: So we will make more money by cutting costs than by increasing revenue.

Zim: We make no more long term commitments for any kind of money. Don't have to. Then in 2015-16 we become WCUB, dump all these fools and go wall to wall CUB. We'll be like WGN in the hey day.

Mitch: Great idea. :D

Zim: :D

Too late. One can't become what one never was. Regardless who will be at the meetings.

Zim: Don't forget to get some donuts, otherwise Grimace won't show.

Mitch: Yeah, I will make sure to get a dozen cheese danishes.

Zim: And don't get too rough on giggles. We got him so damn cheap. He even makes less than Lawrence.

Zim: And make sure Beardown has a good seat too.

Have you seen the station's ratings Gloop?

They have changed. A lot, and not for the better.

Zim's bigger concern is how it affects CBS Ad revenues. I talked to a former sales rep who thought combining XRT and SCR under the current CBS umbrella is bad synergy. Believed it a frustrating challenge to package the two because they are not really complimentary aspects and with his clients asking about pairings with other CBS entities.

I agree, but first, why wait...and if the show is almost irrelevant, isnt it then a perfect time to try something new? and that something new (KAP) is perfect for what you are doing (WCUB)

I know the word is forced and overused, but the SYNERGY is real and works in this case.

Its almost too easy.

You can also relegate Danny Deerfield to Middays, let him do his Sports Opinion Show based on Rumors for the Quad Fat crowd. Have to remember, Bernstein will do almost anything at the Score they ask him to if the money is close to what another station might offer.

When is Danny's contract up?

They have the CUB. They don't need high priced talent.

Have no idea when his deal is up, and I agree they basically dont need the Bernstein BS, but Kap actually delivers and enhances the Cubs thing. The guy works harder than anyone in the business and you can sell Kap all day long on live remotes, talk shows, etc.

While I enjoy Murph talking Cubs, he has taken that JimmyPasta angle of "Not doing it the right way"..."wants his 3 years back"....to that I ask "Do you want your last 40 years back to?"

Well, the thing about those two stations is that they both make up for their cumulative numbers with their time spent listening. But time is finite; if you're a loyal XRT listener, where's the time to listen just as loyally to the Score?

Also, XRT's ratings have gone in the shitter, too, just like the Score's. Took like a 25% drop a month or so ago.

And yet this is one of the reasons put forth by SCR when they signed the deal.

So is Kaplan not actually under contract at ESPN? He's just working per diem??

Terry has hinted that he's calling it quits after the Super Bowl, and that's in what, 10-11 weeks? Pretty soon they're going to have to roll out their going away plans, they're going to have to have some kind of significant event for a guy who has been an employee since day 1. Who else has been there since day 1, even on the administrative side?

With the Cubs games coming along, maybe it's time to realign the shift times with the national syndicated networks (5-9, 9-12, 12-3, 3-7), so that the drive time shift just ends at 6:30 for Grote's pregame for night games instead of having to have Leery come in for 35 minutes. For day home games, just have Grote do transition and then an expanded pregame from 12:15-1:20.

I've advocated 5-9, 9-12, 12-2, 2-6, but this makes more sense for lining up with play-by-play at night. It basically eliminates the Leary orphan shift, as you pointed out, which sounds good until you realize they'd just move him back to late mornings. So, say,

5-9: Mully and Hanley
9-noon: Probably Not Spiegel and Goff
noon-3: Dan Bernstein's Corporate Corner
3-7: Dave Kaplan
7-10: SHAKE THAT / CUB THAT
10-mid: Wheel of Buttmonkeys
mid-5: Les Grobstein

Even if Kaplan came to the Score, can he really do 3-7? Doesn't he have to do a TV show on Comcast at 5pm? Or does that tape in the morning?

I figured "CBS Nude Business Hour" was getting a little oblique.
