In all seriousness, you don't get to choose the music you would like to play?

Of course he doesn't. No corporate radio gig allows that.

Unless it's WGCI and payola.

You'll probably hear the fucking "Man Who Sold the World" cover at least ten times between the Drive and XRT today.

that wuzza david bowie sonnggggg

It was - right up until the moment Nirvana completely slayed the original in one take.

Once I heard Cobain's version, I had a hard time listening to the original. Too overwrought, too guiro-y and shaker-y.

The guitar solo/outro by Cobain is just phenomenal.

Let me put it in terms of the stripped-down Nirvana version: Cobain >>>> Cocaine.

Old enough to have an AARP card, and one of those handicapped parking placards.

Since it's the Drive I bet it has to be a Boston song.

Awful.

Ha, that is right on. It's got to be Foreplay/Long Time.

It's been such a long time
I think I should be goin', yeah
And time doesn't wait for me, it keeps on rollin'
Sail on, on a distant highway
I've got to keep on chasin' a dream
I've gotta be on my way
Wish there was something I could say.

Well I'm takin' my time, I'm just movin' on
You'll forget about me after I've been gone
And I take what I find, I don't want no more
It's just outside of your front door.

It's been such a long time. It's been such a long time.

Well I get so lonely when I am without you
But in my mind, deep in my mind,
I can't forget about you
Good times, and faces that remind me
I'm tryin' to forget your name and leave it all behind me
You're comin' back to find me.

Well I'm takin' my time, I'm just movin' on
You'll forget about me after I'v e been gone
And I take what I find, I don't want no more
It's just outside of y our front door.

It's been such a long time. It's been such a long time.

Yeah. It's been such a long time, I think I should be goin', yeah
And time dosnt wait for me, it keeps on rollin'
There's a long road, I've gotta stay in time with
I've got to keep on chasin' that dream, though I may never find it
I'm always just behind it.

Well I'm takin' my time, I'm just movin' along
Takin' my time, just movin' along
Takin' my time, takin' my time...

in between 23 minutes of commercials, 23 minutes of pre-programmed classic rock,4 minutes or news/sports/weather/traffic updates per hour, a couple of north of fifty white guys will say things like

"You're listening to 97.9, WDRV the Drive, Chicago's best mix of classic rawk and tawk. www.wdrv.com on your tablet or mobile device. Danny Mac, how about those Blackhawks?"

"Me big chief Blackhawk. Go Blackhawks! Keep it locked here on 97.9 the Drive, Chicago's best mix of classic rawk and talk.97.9 on your FM dial, www.wdrv.com on your tablet or mobile device. And now here's a classic cut off Zeppelin 4, Rock and Roll..."

I would like the first song to be Jackie Blue by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils.

For decades I thought that was sung by a woman. I was stunned when I saw a video of them performing it and found out it was a man singing.

I had much the same experience with Sanford Townsend Band's "Smoke From a Distant Fire", except I thought it was a brother on vocals.
