There were a handful of trades before the Bears drafted Shea McClellin, and there appeared to be quite a few questionable draft picks on night #1 of the NFL Draft. I didn't pay that much enough to Boise State football to pass judgment on McClellin. I'm not sure what to think of this pick.

That was a completely valid comparison that Dan and Terry completely wrote off.

Football stupid.

The correct answer is that it's not exactly a great thing that he has the measurables of a 4th round pick.

The correct answer is that measuring a player's worth on "measurables" is stupid.

If only we could put Chris Zorich's heart in Alonzo Spellman's body.

I'm pretty sure that I heard Berns say that Mayock had Shea ranked #14 in his projection. I just checked & Mayock had Shea going to the Packers in the first round at #28.

I just hope that the Bears didn't draft him because the Pack was interested in him. Then again, Ted Thompsons draft track record is unbelievably good.

I think Chris Zorich and the New Jersey Penal system would both have to consent to this.

Comparing McClellin to Jared Allen - Stupid.

Comparing McClellin to John Thiery - Smart analysis.

Got it.

Any time Hub makes a strong statement he always backpedals and immediately softens his stance.

"He's absolutely horrible at anything and, and, and, everything related to defensive football. But I, I, I...I don't mean that to sound like he can't wind up being a productive player. Guys, {snicker} you can't really evaluate a draft until three years after the fact. He's terrible. But he...eeeeuuhhhhh...he could be a contributor."

So if I'm understanding the show today, no one from a non BCS conference should be drafted ever since they don't play real teams.

Cool.

Can our white DE be as good as the white DE that Houston took last year? I forget his name but that cracker played pretty well from what i remember. He had a hell of an interception in the playoffs last year.

Don't listen to Bernstein and his crew. They think if you're not a women beating, gun carrying, drug using gangsta with a warrant out for your arrest for first degree murder, you can't be good at football unless you're a QB.

It's that type of thinking that makes me hate sports radio people.

Yup Rice and Payton really sucked at football. They should have been in the SEC.

That was an uncomfortable interview.

Until the end.

I think Dan expected McClellin to be a wide-eyed hick but he didn't sound fazed by the attention/situation. He actually kind of sounded like he was patronizing them with this "I"ll do whatever they want me to do" answers. Funny that he asked to hear Terry's "Roar of the Day."

I flipped to MJH because I thought McCellin would be making the rounds and sure enough he was on with them a few minutes after he was on with B&B. He sounded a little more personable, maybe because they didn't basically ask the same question several times, and he was kind of a smart ass to Jurko which was funny.

At the end of the interview I was forced to PTFB. The cumulative football IQ of the show (hosts and producer) showed me that talking trash is far more easier than doing some honest homework or following a sport. Right before the interview I found myself in utter disbelief with each declarative statement DB tried to make, with each waffle TB performed, and the frequent intrusions of one JGG. Then came the interview and at the end I was convinced that straw men and paper lions is what the show is about, because when it is live and with a real guest they are reduced to sounding all but assinine.

If you don't know about BSU football, you don't know college football. Pointing to a cupcake opponent on the schedule only shows ignorance because Everybody plays at least one (unless you're the cupcake team). He's white, so what. Look at last season's sack leaders and guess what? Four of the top ten were white, including the sack leader. Some of the sack leaders come from "big name" programs like Idaho State, Western Michigan, South Florida or Cincinnatti, programs that BSU would roll right over. McClellin's size is comparable to these leaders.

And special teams? Please! I remember another player the Bears drafted with many of the same similarities who answered the questions the same way. Too slow to play safety, too light to play linebacker, excelled on special teams, wasn't a big name and not from a name program. Same hosts displaying the same football ignorance. The one thing that everyone agreed upon was his speed.

They don't have to drink the Halas kool-aid but at least have a clue about the game and the players. Just one more aspect of sports where they come off as marginally entertaining idiots.
