The thing is, back when B&b were actually entertaining, you never missed athletes being interviewed. They almost never really say anything anyway. And the show is actually only ostensibly a sports show. Sports was just the platform for them to do their thing, which used to be damn funny. Now, it's still not a sports show, it's a boring public service announcement with dan scolding and spreading guilt among his listeners. Which is why an interview with a moronic professional athlete would come as a welcome respite.

Like I've said before, the B&B show - which used to be hysterical - is now 'Deadspin Radio'.

Go read the Deadspin columns. Read the comments - I'll save you the time - faux outrage, northeastern ultra liberal white guilt kids saying everything is racist and sexist.

As read that, think about B&B and think about how Dan always references Deadspin. Again, the show has effectively become the radio channel outlet for Deadspin.

The homosexual references and "gay" jokes was a staple when they were "funny".
Kiddy diddling "funny"
Misogyny "funny"
The absence of classism or elitism, funny
Dan not being an obnoxiously overbearing dick and flaming asshole, funny.
Terry still when he had thought and before the neck surgery causing him to become a bobbing headed parrot, funny.

The listeners, most still have a sense of humor and are not guilty.

Any subject can be funny if it's handled the right way. If you take offense at joking about the things you mentioned above, I'm not sure why you ever listened to the show at all.

I'm reinforcing what you said. What was once considered "funny" by both host and listener has now become one-sided, narrowly defined verbal screeds to which the host is the premier authority. Listeners have become segregated into "idiots" for not being in newly formed lockstep, his ALS of tweets, texts, and emails. And the rest of us who either listen passively, PTFB, or do both and write here. My point is that it can be both serious and humorous, which it once was, as opposed to now being something uber-serious to the host for less than candid (or consistent) reasons.

Exactly. Many athletes dont like B&B. I know a guy who played in the NHL for the Caps & Kings, and Dan & Terry arent respected.

I understand that many athletes don't like them. And if they declined to come on, fine. But I don't ever think there is ever any attempts made to get them on.

That doesn't explain the media enemies of B&B. The writers in town that they hate would come on if asked. I'll bet even Hawk would come on.

Reminded of a past notable columnist who made enemies of athletes, management, and media. They wouldn't talk to him and if it weren't for his press credential they would have denied him access to the premises. His walks to the car were with his stringers to serve as witness to potential confrontations.

My question: Why not get some of the "sources" as guests?
My answer: They want to keep their jobs or collegial credibility.

Martellus used to be their weekly guy.

He's an open book. You'd think they'd be able to get him on to talk. Nada.

It's funny though - look at all the guests. They often have analyst guys (Bowen, Durkin, Hub), broadcaster guys (Kasper, Billick), but NEVER had ex-athletes on (can you really call Matt Bowen a real ex-NFL player?).

I can't think of a time they've had ex-players on (of any value) that would be interested to talk.

That is telling.

The Score's strength has traditionally been in its listeners/callers.

Yep.

Current players are not going to break-bad on anyone in the locker room, and ex-players are not going to go after anyone they may have played with that are still in the locker room. You have to wait about a generation, when all of his friends are long gone from the league for an ex-player to say anything interesting.

Yes, there are exceptions, like a Charles Barkley, but those kind of guys are very rare.

MLB and the NFL should be searching far and wide for their own Barkely

Think how low the NBA was after Jordan. Now there's a Thursday night show where people tune in to hear the commentator as much as the game
