Correct on all counts!
It was a step in the right direction for the organization and showed that they were a "big.boy.team" because they were able to look past serial abuse of women, consistently violent behavior and that he got his friend killed. All those things were marks of progress for Bears management.

IIRC he made it a point to go out of his way to say how the off the field stuff didn't matter and all that mattered was having BIG. BLACK. STUDS. performing at the highest possible level on the field because that's what championship winning organizations do.
I've said this before -- I think Dan gets a kick out of taking a stance on something, insulting those who disagree, and then doing a 180 and seeing how many people who agreed with him before completely ignore the fact that he's done a 180 and agree with him again.
And I think he looks at them with disdain.
