Why would Hawk want to do the road games? Why not just do the pairs of games that are a night and then a day the next day, and use some of that salary to spring for a nice room at one of the west loop hotels such as the JW Marriott?

I've got to think that Hawk was told he can't drive at night any more. Although why the hell Hawk would drive himself to the game is beyond me, unless he thinks that's what Yaz would do if he was an aging homer who reportedly (albeit reported by B&B) gets paid $5k/game...
