It was like he had lost all the bass in his voice.

One of the issues my cousin had which actually triggered his cancer diagnosis was that the muscles around his vocal cords had gotten messed up because the tumor was pressing against them and against some nerves. It has taken him nearly a year to get 85-90% of his pre-cancer voice back.

Terry sounded a bit like my cousin did about 4 months ago, except with less muscle control.
