He did take a swipe at the Sox yesterday by going over a ranking of top prospects by some obscure system (Cato Plus?) that no one has heard of, and concluding that he found it "interesting" that the Cubs' prospects were generally ranked higher than the highly touted Sox players recently acquired.

To be fair (this was the 5 minutes I listened for yesterday), Bernstein said that Bryant/Rizzo had the potential to be greater than Toews/Kane, but didn't just anoint them already.

An agreed on the Keith impression. That was pretty hilarious!

Why does Bernstein not like the Blackhawks? Weren't they nothing but super duper nice to him?

He's just a butthurt twat who hates the sport because the Hawks success means fewer people are paying attention to his beloved NBA in Chicago.

So really, just Bizzaro Dan McNeil.

I'm guessing he was talking about KATOH+, a FanGraphs creation that incorporates 20-80 scouting reports and minor league stats to create a 6-year projection of WAR, which projection is used to rank prospects in a traditional Top-100 fashion. From what I've read it appears fairly accurate.

But if Dan's takeaway is that the Cubs' remaining prospects are better than what the Sox have, his trolling game has gotten incredibly weak.

Both teams have 6 players each on this year's KATOH+ Top-100 list, but the total projected WAR for Sox prospects is 43.4, and only 33.7 for the Cubs. You would have to ignore arguably the best prospect in baseball (Moncada, 13.8 WAR projection through 6 seasons) in order for the totals to be comparable. If you ignored the clear-cut top prospect of both teams, the Sox would still lead by almost 6 whole WAR.

The notion that the Cubs' prospects are generally ranked higher than those acquired by the Sox is embarrassingly false.

The guy who assembled the list admits that at least one of the Cubs' prospects is ranked higher than he should be:

I feel like we've broken this down a few times but basically it comes down to regarding hockey fans as socioeconomically inferior to basketball fans and resenting how well McDonough got members of the media to act as his public relations firm.

Some hockey people can be annoying too. Then again, he basically gets his information from an annoying hockey person so that probably isn't it.

That is odd. He certainly can't think the people buying the tickets are lower than NBA fans. This lower bowl tix are awfully costly. He simply just thinks people with sweaters might as well be wearing confederate flags. Bernsie is lazy and just does not want to invest in knowing hockey.

I can say that market research has found that out of the 4 major sports leagues in the US, NHL fans are the most affluent. Unless this is rooted in Dan hating rich white people, which makes sense.

Hockey has never belonged to the Jewish community the way baseball and basketball have. I thought it went without saying.

It was a dumb thing to say. If they stopped playing today Toews and Kane are Hall of Famers. Bryant and Rizzo are guys who had a couple good years. It would be like if Goff and bernstein were on the radio in 1964 and they started saying Pete Ward/Gary Peters were better than Hull/Mikita.

.... I gotta think about that one

Come on. Do you really think people sit around hypothesizing about what sports the Jewish community has embraced?

No, which is my point. Everyone knows what Sandy Koufax and Hank Greenberg meant to legions of kids growing up (except, oddly enough, for Senor, who couldn't understand for the life of him why Asian kids might get jazzed about Jeremy Lin). It's not that the NHL was ever overtly antisemitic, just that hockey never lined up with early/mid-20th century Jewish American culture.

That's probably true, and I have no reason to believe you're making it up. It's just that you said it "goes without saying," and MANY of us who didn't grow up in urban areas with a plethora of da' jews would have no idea that that is some sort of cultural "thing."

Leash all you have to do is look at Brooklyn in the 50's. Knicks and Dodgers were king. I always assumed that had something to do with a lot of Jewish being in coaching and announcing basketball. As for baseball think Reinsdorf.

You can play baseball and basketball with relative ease in cramped northeastern cities. Hockey, less so. Brothers don't like hockey either!

Honestly, I always just assumed Jewish kids balanced their parents' checkbooks for fun.

BRick runs into seven trannies at Walmart each week but leash has never met a Jew.

Well, neither of us is running into Jews at Wal-Mart, that's for sure.
