Maybe we can pull all the clips of Dan calling Devin Hester stupid, then compare it to the statement I don't sleep with black girls, which sounds like some silly inside joke. If an NBA player said something like stay away from white women, I'm sure it would be all in good fun. Russian guy says something similar, and it's time for another special episode of VERY IMPORTANT RADIO. Tim Baffoe with the annotated notes on the struggles to support the evil women-hating franchise.

Calling Devin Hester stupid is an individual thing.

This controversy is overblown but that is still a bad comparison.

How is this controversy not an individual thing? They called Panarin racist.

In one instance, Hester was talking about his friend being killed, and he was both emotional and using slang. Dan said he did not understand what he was saying, and it sounded like he had rocks in his mouth or something to that effect. Given that Hester grew up with a single mother, who was paralyzed in a car wreck when he was a teenager (and he had to couch surf with relatives), don't you think that repeatedly making fun of him for the way he talked is insensitive at least?

Saying something about an individual is different than saying something about a whole group.

This is Dan labeling someone as racist based on one comment, while being comfortable making fun of a black athlete for speaking in "Ebonics". It seems more than slightly hypocritical

You mean how that pencil dick talks about Christians or the whites in the south?

That's a much better comparison.

There is obviously racism informing dan's viewpoint when he discusses someone like Hester though. I'm sure he believes that's mitigated by making fun of Tyler Hansbrough, but it's really not.

That really is the problem that Dan has and why many here no longer like him very much. You simply cannot sit upon your high throne of judgement and expect people to ignore your own flaws. Perhaps he subscribes to the mantra that your audience changes every 20 minutes or in his case every few years.

Sometimes you don't have to look for more than what is right in front of you. Hester had to be told where to line up during games because he couldn't remember plays.

Right. And Brittney Griner is a big masculine woman, but it would be difficult to deny that referring to her as a wildebeest has racial connotations.

I just don't get the allure of Bernstein or what has become of the Bernstein infected station. I can't see him beyond my perception as a troll with inconsistent positions and unfortunate tendencies if not a closet racist. And how much of the station has fallen into much of his example.

I alluded to this possibility like five years ago. It is one thing for a guy like Goff who has probably experienced racism many times personally to have a lot of thoughts on the topic. But it is quite another for a privileged white guy like Bernstein to be so obsessed with calling out supposed racists at every opportunity. It's like he harbors some deep seeded guilt or is trying to deflect his own true thoughts.

The show is better than B&B at the end. But it is still having these preachy moments that just aren't entertainment. It's one giant troll job.

I fully believe the Duke degree lends him unearned status. Just as he tries to associate with people like Sheehan in the hopes of being considered smart by association, so do his disciples.

At the board outing, Bernsie clearly positioned himself as a dummy among his math intensive hedge fund friends. I think he associates with some very intelligent individuals and has a complex about it.

Goff grew up in the 80s and 90s in Evanston. He got kicked out of SIU, and fired from a station at Atlanta. And his landing spot was a daytime hosting slot in the third biggest market in the country. If he were white, people like DiCaro would be screaming white privilege.

I think Goff is talented and deserving of his role on Chicago Sports Radio. And you're probably right that people would allege that, which shows that labeling successful people as a product of "white privilege" is usually a mistake.

I thought his shows with Larry last week were an embarrassment to the station. Goff is not stupid, but he certainly seems self-indulgent. I cannot think of a lazier form of radio than a gotcha moment with a person from another culture. That Russian "white privilege" on display. Then acting like they are so much smarter and better than the callers who disagree with their piling on the guy.
