Heard this a few segments before transition, when they were discussing the story of Aaron Rodgers reportedly being pissed that the Packers didn't consult him at all on recent personnel and coaching decisions, and he's considering taking a different path in contract negotiations as a result.

After McDoink prompted Dan with the story, Dan said something like "I'm wary of quarterbacks with a 'diva' mentality," later saying he is "60/40 on Rodgers' side" because perhaps the Packers should have at least "given him a heads up".

Interesting take from a guy that creams himself at LeBron's genius as a decision-maker in the NBA and lauds the power LeBron has anointed himself as de facto (there you fucking go, Tiny) GM of the Cavs. I wonder what could explain the difference in Dan's respective takes on professional athletes feeling they should be brought in on the executive-level decision making processes of the franchises which employ them? Frankly, I haven't a clue.

The franchise player should always be in the loop.

Maybe, maybe not, I just want to know what would explain Dan's contrary thoughts on Rodgers being involved in executive-level player decisions as opposed to LeBron being involved in same.

Even with the drama and uncertainty surrounding this year's Cavs team, I don't think Dan ever wavered on How Awesome It Is that LeBron is telling the owner and GM what to do. Yet with Rodgers it becomes "60/40" and "maybe they should have told him before he found out from the press".

What percentage of the time is a star basketball player on the court in a given NBA game? How about a star football player?

Personally I think Rodgers has every right to be infuriated with how Green Bay has been mismanaged for years, but it's not out of the ordinary for a franchise NBA player to be given far more leeway when it comes to demands about front office personnel than it is for an NFL one given the greater influence they have over the course of an entire game. Hell this was literally an argument on PTI today, with Wilbon making the absurd argument that Rodgers' NBA fandom possibly inspired him to want a greater voice

Finally, I didn't listen to the segment in question but if anything I'd say use of the term "diva quarterback" sounds like Dan trolling by using a descriptor far more often applied to minority players in general and wide receivers especially. The fact that you in turn are suggesting Dan's the one who's actually guilty of a genuine double standard is pretty hilarious.

I don't think the differences in how the two sports are played account for going from "its AWESOME and A THING that this superstar player is demanding GM-like treatment" to "maybe they should have told this superstar player before the press did, still not sure, though".

Also, it was Dan's Analytical Voice. If it was a troll job it went without a payoff.

It is well known other wise you don't listen. The reason is simple... LeBron is black...Rodgers is white.

The cult of LeBron runs deep. There have been stories about how LeBron should run for office because his "basketball IQ" shows how smart he is. It's so utterly ridiculous. LeBron has said few vague things about "justice", and now he's in the know policy genius.

Dan hated Jordan as a GM, and generally liked to make fun of him. Times have changed. Imagine Dan trying to make his voice sound like LeBron's and copying his speech patterns to make fun of him.
