Grote became a bit of a darling because he came to the Score in that period where Drew Hayes went over Mitch's head to pull all the weekend/fill-in shifts from producers, so Grote felt like a breath of fresh air by virtue of not being old and cantankerous.

Around that same time, I remember Terry having some hand in Bruce Wolf getting screwed out of a job, but I've since forgotten the details.

I think Grote is a likeable guy - maybe even the ideal fill-in or evening host. Any positives about his "amazing" impressions are quickly offset by how often he will go to them - followed by his co-workers egging him on - rinse/repeat. He is intimidated quite easily by other hosts, and agreed that I'm not hearing any sort of amazing humor or quick wit when he's on the air. He's a replacement level reporter, and has taken his love for Les to a level where I think he is turning into him.

On one hand he should be a solid option, as he reflects the "everyman" person that worked for guys like North, McNeil and even Terry (eeee, eeeee, I'm just a redneck from Mokena), but he lacks a dynamic personality and the ability to create content (good or bad). He's a "guy" - a guy with bits and stories that would run dry very quickly if he were sliding into a host seat every day.

I feel like local sports radio has run it's course - just too many other options without having to sit through endless commercials or attempt to get an app to actually work properly. That original crew back on Belmont certainly took a chance and worked hard, but they were also undoubtedly all beneficiaries of great timing.

I do not understand his appeal, either, and have seen no evidence of him being quick witted or funny.

If he ever does that Fugitive impression on the air again he should be catapulted in to the sun. Preferably while holding hands with Zach Zaidman.

Grote is witty, especially compared to the rest of the hosts

if considering AM1000, I don't have as much history but find they are nearly all funnier people in general. Except Kap of course.

Part of me still hopes that Jason has the silliness that he displayed when he started getting on the mic more during late-stage B&B. Yes Bernstein & Goff was an abject failure, but we have to consider that Dan have may have played a much larger role in programming that show than his ass-saving maneuvers let on, and Jason was just trying to be the good soldier and talk about whatever Dan wanted to discuss. To me, he's the only one of the replacements mentioned that I think, at least at one point, had a bit of that spark that made B&B special.

He's put in a ton of hours on his podcast if you care enough to find out (I don't)

I think Dan and Jason fairly shared the blame for the glut of out-of-town NBA talk, but Jason took the heat for telling people to stop listening and bragging about the car he was leasing.

Leila is not in the lineup full time, so they wouldn't have to 'cut' her

If it's necessary to have more female voices, looks like Rongey is with a female partner, make it a package deal. Just listening to a couple clips and I can say she's more audibly performant than Leila (so is a rusty circular saw). https://www.instagram.com/chrisamykmox/reels/

Danny Mac and Spaulding in mid days! Way better than Leila and Harris

the longer this goes on with no announcement (that they'll even do a change), it has me thinking they are just going to kick the can until Cubs season is over, or at least until Bears training camp. Games will take up 1-2 days a week, if Marshall was on a one year contract it's up September 30

They'll roll out the new lineup for Bears season--maybe promote it as the Beariest bunch of Bears experts who ever Bearsed--and eat the last month.

I think Goff is a bad radio host, but that Bulls job has kept me away from him... for now

Have the auditions for the new midday show begun with Grote & Rahmi first up?

Listened some to Grote and Rami M. They're much better than any combination of Bernstein, Harris, and Leila.

I liked Rami and Grote. Milquetost, but at least both have professional radio voices, are from here (yeah, know Rami isnt from here but he knows enough) and can actually talk about the teams.

A way better listen than Harris/Leila.

Just a day away from the platitudes, bad analogies/metaphors, contrarian takes, etc was good on the ears.

Didn't once hear "quote/unquote", "it's all relative", "it's like when you're on a date with a girl..."

Yay!

I think he's from the northwest suburbs but moved to Milwaukee to work at SSP, kind of like Parkins and his time in Kansas City.

He was getting some hell on the REDDIT PAGE, but that was probably members from here commenting that are on there. He was fine, and sometimes that's enough.

Listened to Grote and Rami today and it was MILES better than Harris and Leila. They are nothing great, but they seem to be a show I could listen to on a regular basis. Harris and Leila are not that.

Yeah it was okay. I ended up tuning out when Herron came in. Everything seemed forced but at least they were honest in Cub criticism.

They're from here. This is not an unreasonable prerequisite. If the Score had launched with local news anchors from Texas and Alabama, they wouldn't have lasted a year.

Leila is very intrigued by Ron Washington (IF Guru per Leila) working with Tim Anderson (new to the Angels and never played 2B) to see what comes from this.

Amazing sports thoughts on the mid-day show!
