The Hawks won, which proves that Hawks fans were dumb for ever worrying.

The Heat will restore order to the basketball universe tonight.

Abbreviated show due to Sox-Cubs. Listen and learn something.

SportsCenter just ran a segment on LeBron in which they referred to him as "A Beautiful Mind."

Your move, Dan.

I'm just going to pop in a comment from this Deadspin article about Bill Simmons (http://deadspin.com/bill-simmons-thinks ... -510443204) and let you all think if it reminds you of anyone:

"I'm very happy when Simmons does things like this, because it shows beyond a shadow of a doubt how small-minded he really is.

People tend to get fooled because he does have a certain ability to put together highly-structured, voluminous, and sometimes entertaining arguments about sort of inconsequential topics, like finding parallels between movie quotes and an upcoming sports season. This can sometimes make for a decent read, and there is a market for a decent read out there.

But Simmons isn't content with that. He wants to be important. He is DYING to be seen as someone who gives unique, searing insight, whose theories shed new light on things that just wasn't there before.

But he's fucking lazy in that regard, and he ain't that bright (to wit: connecting the MLK assassination with the collective psyche of Memphis Grizzlies fans). He wants to theorize from his man cave, or from his company seats at the sporting events he chooses to attend, rather than doing the work of a real journalist, which is tiring, tedious, confrontational, and would not get you a warm welcome at the Soho Club.

He's dying to be held in high regard, instead of just being content with what he should be content with: He's a middling-but-entertaining writer who has been able to make a lucrative career without leaving his couch, but will never be really important. He'll just be a guy whose work is good for passing the time in a boring office."

I also remember Dan saying yesterday In. His. Big. Boy. Voice. that this is the first time in history, of the four major sports, that the four most recent champions are in the final four. NBC reported last night that this is the second time it's happened in NHL history.

Funny, just as I read this post the voiceover was being streamed. You're right to the point of it almost being comical or intentional.

Third if you count 1984 and the New York Islanders.

I like Bill Simmons' articles and podcasts (especially NFL). As the articles says his work is silly and good for passing the time in a boring office

And like RBP says I think he knows his role and doesn't take himself too seriously. He sometimes contradicts himself multiple times within 5 minutes on his podcasts for goodness sakes.

No, that doesn't count.

Simmons is a knob and I don't care for his writing. It's Robot Chicken for sports fans. But he was a big part of getting 30 for 30 started at ESPN.

He also starts the promo by saying HAWKS WEEN.

Oh, and Simmons is just the absolute fucking worst.

BVG must be based out of New York, because he does imaging for the Fan, too. It's weird to hear him do rejoins and stuff for Francesa and expect to hear "live at Fucky O'Dipshit's on 466th Street, come on out for Bud Light and WEEENGS"

I think when he was just the sports guy breaking down Karate Kid and how it relates to the Celtics was pretty entertaining.

I think that's the problem. Back when he was on Page 2 he was able to pick and choose his spots a lot more effectively. Sometimes not write an article for 2 weeks, take 2 months to do a mailbag etc. With the podcast and NBA basketball coverage etc, he's being forced to come up with new stuff daily and that would expose anyone who made a living doing what he did.

He was ok on Page 2, though a little of his shtick always went a long way in my book. He took up residence in his own ass five or six years ago and has been completely insufferable ever since.

Its about not being satisfied with being a good radio host and desparately wanting to be something more IMPORTANT

He literally calls what he does VERY. IMPORTANT. RADIO.

I have never heard Bernsie say that -- doesn't mean it wasn't uttered.
Bernsie uses hyperbole to spark discussions, but I don't believe he frames conversations to please others. I don't think Dan takes himself that seriously. He's said that several times. Maybe he's lying.

Dan takes himself seriously except for when he doesn't. The "always x except when y" construction is the backbone of this program.

He's a relic of a bygone era, when this board was almost unilaterally behind the show. I believe I was named vice-president of the B&B Ass-Licking Society!

He said the VIR crap constantly when people would ask him why they continued to discuss Penn State. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STORY THAT NEEDS TO BE TOLD. While I agree with that in theory, the lengths to which they dragged out the story certainly can be debated.
