The Sox are bad. The Cubs are bad (but the smart people in charge want it that way, so it's cool).

The Bears special teams are a disaster. The best long snapper in the city will be spending his days not on the gridiron, but sitting in a studio chair after Les has shit in it.

Chicago's Big Ten Labor Union is bad.

Illini football is bad too, although at least they got the Wint Saturday.

Imagine how many Northwestern players would be released today if they were "employees"?

If I were Northwestern I'd be looking for better employees to hire.

Thank goodness we're not a "right to work state!" They'd be in a pretty shitty union anyway if they could all get canned.

I've listened more today than I have had in years. Outstanding show today. Great listen. Great guests.

Hop on the bandwagon boys.

Len compares Baez to Mark Reynolds.

yeah, I'll take that from my middle infielder. But I'm not sure Baez is Reynolds.

Bernstein finally found a conscience and has thrown the Bears coaching staff clown college under the bus. About time he went after them.

Must have been reading a certain Chicago sports message board over the weekend.

Check out his article as well on B&B site about the Bears. Full of questions and skepticism.

No doubt Bernstein would short the Bears on Sunday, if his wife let him.

That's a pretty sharp left turn from the day Dan woke up and, apropos of nothing in real life, declared that the Bears could go to the Super Bowl.

The horror show of Alcantara and Baez = small sample

The great week of Soler = evidence of greatness

I think that was more Terry.

But Dan did say it was a possibility. What gets him in even more WYC territory was when he told a caller that there was no way the Bears would be as bad as 9-7.

This makes me glad I really don't listen anymore. I can read the Board for five minutes an hour and get the flavor of bad.

Dan said they were a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Terry said they would go to the Super Bowl I believe.

I don't fault them for coming to their senses. Most people were optimistic about the Bears heading into this season, including myself, thinking that things got fixed. They're smarter than most in realizing and fessing up to their error. Works better to make the confession now, rather than get caught 6 games in.

Question now is, how long before Trestman becomes as toxic as Shoop?

correct.

I still think they're going to be a good team, but I called the Lions winning the division a while back.

But see now they only come across as the wind sox they've become. When this was an actually interesting/funny show, they'd have actually done some work upon which to base their positions. Even if it was ultimately & publicly resorting to their "insider peeps", they'd point to something and then stick with it. There would usually be something of substance that lead to an actual defensible position. At least then you could respect their integrity (such as that is) and/or thought process.

Either they had that, or at least not playing ESPN and making foolish early predictions and pissing into the wind as they've grown accustomed to.

Third place for the Bear, behind the division champion Packers & much improved Lions (who just miss out on a playoff berth).

It was definitely both of them. There was talk about the small window and maximizing one of the best quarterbacks in the game within that window. I believe Terry began slowly backing away from this idiotic position before dan did.

uh, yeah I'm not sure I remember that. Certainly since 2003 that has not been the case.

Indeed. I remember one day in particular that Dan was pretty adamant that they were LEGITIMATE SB contenders. And by "legitimate" and his tone, he meant more than "a playoff team." He meant one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the NFL.

And they are right. Everyone is overreacting to the preseason. It's embarassing and in-town stupid. A team that prides itself on a great offense and knows that their defense is old isnt going balls out in the preseason. They are going to come out and blow the doors off the Bills.

so now they're completely breaking bad on Emery.

But why did they stop with criticizing his drafts? What about the coach he chose? He's from the frigging Canadian League. There's a reason he was coaching in the Canadian league.

No, superbowl winning Gruden wasn't a good fit for the Bears, but Trestman was the best candidate?

Dear Lord.

Yeah, that was a good con job they tried to pull over us all.

So because Trestman wanted to be a head coach (when a lot of NFL coaches want to be head coaches), that was a good enough reason for Emory to look in the NFL graveyard for one?

the worst part about trestman being from the CFL is that when it came time to come back to the NFL and hire his coaching staff he was "out of the loop" and ended up with absolute shit like mel tucker and joe dicamillis.

i heard somebody on a score radio show with zach get away with saying "you pretty much go and hire joe dicamillis if you want to be bad at special teams" and mel tucker.... yeargh. he took over a jacksonville DEF that managed to hang around 6-10 or whatever and then after a year they dropped like a rock to ~28th. and here we'd be over the moon to see some ~28th ranked defense.
