Whether the column is a bit or not doesn't matter if it isn't a funny bit. I've been listening to B&B assail working-class sports fans for six years, and it's just not as funny as it used to be anymore. You get to the part where he's rattling off football jargon and invoking the "All 22" perspective on nfl.com, and eventually it's just like "okay, Dan, you're really good at watching a TV show. Congratulations on that."

until another show comes around that does what they do as good or better, I'm tuned into them. They're unlike any other show on sports that I can listen to.

Amen!

wait...now YOU'RE a B&B fan? They pretty much indirectly got North fired...

North was making about 3X more than those guys (back in his prime). It's called jealousy.

He turned down a pay cut that The SCORE was offering at the time. If I remember correctly, North was earning about $1.5 million, but WSCR 670 was offering about 1/2 of that in his last contract offer. North simply walked away from the table and left The SCORE completely.

I thought he was let go after not being able to hit 95 mph fastballs in the batting cage, they cant have hosts running around not being able to do something that most guys should be able to do easily.

 Actually North could probably hit that with enough time in the cage. He was at one time a very good baseball player.
Correct, he was not fired. But his incompetence continually on display on the drivetime show certainly paved the way to him not being brought back.

I've had the Score on in the background all day and that audio clip of the guy saying "I didn't really go to school to learn much..." slays me every time, but I keep missing who it is? Who's the guy in that clip? I agree with Bernsie, it's a fantastic sound bite.

As far as 95MPH fastballs, about 12 years ago I was thrilled to have hit a couple of foul balls at that speed. Bernstein is full of crap.

No. I know many guys who played with him. He was mediocre at best. A beer leagye player who bought his way into the big leagues. Im sure Elmhurst Steve can confirm.

You said he was a very good baseball player though. Two very different things.

Baseball is a sport. Softball is a hobby.

Completely agree. I brought up baseball and joe countered with softball. Just responding to him. North was a good baseball player in high school.

Well, most of my guys are in the Hall of Fame. I can understand why some guys wouldnt say anything bad about Mike. He did a lot to promote the sport. The truth is he was better at hoops. He could shoot the rock. Thats the straight dope.
