It was a stupid firing but an overall hilarious story. It's nothing personal. It just feels like I'm at a book club and most are saying the story HAD to go down this way and it's hard to argue. A good story finishes up tidy.

Ok, rereading it changed my context of "crashing out". You meant he had an anger management episode, not a mental breakdown.

If it's true that all he had to do was apologize but he wouldn't do it, then the guy whose show used to open with "I do whatever Mitch Rosen tells me" does appear to be having some sort of meltdown. There are other possibilities, of course,

1) he already has a new gig lined up and didn't feel the need to
2) he has enough money saved up that he doesn't need the stupid job he stopped caring about 5 years ago
3) the terms of the apology were so onerous and obsequious that no one could be asked to prostrate themselves in this way and retain any dignity,

but in all of this, I'm sticking with "he's not acting like himself."
