Wouldn’t it be more accurate to refer to the remainder of Santo’s legs as stumps rather than the parts that were removed as stumps? I don’t think Dan was calling Santo’s disembodied legs “stumps”. That doesn’t make sense.

Bernstein's hubris finally caught up with him.

I always found his non-sport takes as insufferable. But he frequently had interesting takes on actual (on field) sports topics, and the show has featured frequent guests I liked, so I endured his arrogance for many years. The Penn State screaming was way too much to take, BTW. That and other incidents had forced me to take a break from The Score several times. I live in Florida now, and I have only occasionally checked in on excerpts from the station online. It really serves little purpose now.

Getting back to Bernstein, I have to wonder if there isn't more going on with the guy than a thin skin regarding fish. The Real World is not heading in a direction to his liking.

Mitch Rosen is friendly with Barstool Eddie and I'm sure Rosen was pissed at how Bernstein treated his guest fill-in back in the fall. Obviously this fish fiasco was the final straw, but publicly shitting all over a guy your boss brings in for a hosting shift couldn't have helped the situation.

Agree with this take. I've officially turned to Waddle and Silvy and Carm and Jurko. Fuck the Score. Fuck Spiegel and Larry Holmes. Actually, fuck all the shows.

I heard some of Spiegel and he kept saying how much Bernstein will be missed, how hard of a day it was....

It's sort of odd. They can't talk about the actual incident that led to his firing (and most probably think he was the victim of a nazi on X but can't say that) so instead have to pretend that he's going to be greatly missed (at least some of the high level comments that were said).

"Thank you for firing Mac" was 2014, and Dan actually had been pretty much a model employee to that point, but not much longer. 2015 was when he first started stepping in it on Twitter: if I remember correctly, l'affaire boobs and the Cheryl Scott train tweet were like two months apart, and the latter had Jerry Taft threatening to kick his ass.

But even still, it's radio. Far more often than not, you go out on your back, as did North, and Mac twice, and now even Bernstein. Only Terry got a fond farewell and he had to go through hell to get it.

Well, anyway, there were rumors that she was sleeping with Patrick Sharp, among others, so he tweeted something like "instead of handing off the Stanley Cup from player to player, they're going to pass around Cheryl Scott" and then a less well-constructed line like "and the winner of the Most Connections To The Blackhawks trophy is Cheryl Scott," which pissed off people at channel 7 and got him suspended the day after the Hawks won the Cup, so I think the afternoon show that day was Boers and Abbatacola, who himself once said that he hoped girls got raped at the Hawks parade in 2013.

The Score's relationship with the Blackhawks in the 2010s was fuckin' weird, man.

EDIT: in fact, I would venture to say that while Penn State gets all the "credit" for the changes in Dan, it was the Hawks getting good that really spurred on his descent into madness.
