Why hire a full-time co-host if you can just have Spiegs&Co.? Pat Mannelly in today, fine.

they don't need to do anything to gin up listenership for the next, what, six months? Spiegel is a professional show driver and isn't going to turn people off (or in the case of some forum members, gain snowflake hate-listeners). Have a co-host on Monday. And Friday. You have Grote every day. And then pay a bunch of beat writers in gift certificates to come in for 20 minutes at a time.

On yesterday's show, Lawrence recommended that the new Chicago sports network hire Jason Goff as it's Bulls TV host. Not a shocking recommendation from Holmes, but is Goff able to do an afternoon show and do pre-games with early starts? I guess he could since the Bulls are on 670 and they probably would finish the afternoon show and he would go straight to the pre-game...

One of the early articles mentioned that I believe and it was part of the reasoning that Goff would be paired with Larry in mid days so that he would be more open for the Bulls stuff.

just today Jeff Agrest (who seems to be Goff's publicist) had an update:

Quote:
The host [for Bulls post-game] remains in question. Jason Goff, who has filled that role since 2019, is the leading candidate to replace Danny Parkins on The Score’s afternoon show, and the times of the jobs conflict.

Find someone who loves you the way Jeff Agrest loves Jason Goff.

today's guest-host: Anthony Herron , perfectly cromulent football talker

is anybody clamoring for a permanent co-host saying there's "chaos" at WSCR until then?

Herron would probably be a good permanent hire. Certainly better than Goff.

I like Ant's football thoughts but he's too boring for a permanent role. The afternoon show has to have more energy.

We would need Goff to be at least an NBA insider guest.

The best thing that could happen is if Goff loses his Bulls show and is not hired by the Score. He is not smart, not entertaining, not funny, only really knows NBA, and has trouble communicating. He does look good in a suit and has a nice smile.

Much agreed. All that would have been discussed the last 3 days would have been Tyreek Hill.

Liking Ruthie Polinsky again today filling in. Wouldnt mine her

I permanently PFTB'ed ages ago but Heron is a prototypical night shift guy with potential to move to late morning or something after he builds up more of a following and adds layers to his personality. He's definitely more of a fluid thinker and talker then guys like Holmes and Grote. But 670 is so horrendous anyway and no one listens so perhaps it won't matter.

Dan and Lawrence tackled it. Lots of Kapernick references...Das hasn't had the talk because he has privilege.

he is exactly what he is and it isn't going to change. He's Haugh with more polish. But then, Haugh somehow has a morning gig, so hey, anything is possible

I didn't listen today or yesterday, I just find the score now boring and have for awhile, same with ESPN 1000. Honestly, I liked Parkins during Bears season he had on Warner, etc.

I honestly get all my media on twitter, etc. And that is what I will miss. Bernstein isnt going to get fired, this will blow over, etc.
He won't even apologize as he had the non apology apologies in the past of not apologizing, just saying he is a stupid person.

What I will miss and what will stop probably for the year is his twitter and i follow him on Bears games

Dan has great and witty in game analysis on twitter. That is gone for any tweet he makes from now on will be 10,000 Bernstein replies.
I think he will miss that as well, esp his political tweets.

Funny thing is, everyone, and I mean everyone in Chi media is saying how much of a a-hole etc. Dan has become in last 10 years, etc. I think the opposite.

When B&B were at it's best, Dan was basically Trump calling every caller a loser and I think a lot of the listeners found that annoying, but his wittiness and bits were hilarious.

Also lot of people say Trump broke him, I think this is not true. Penn State did old Bernstein in for real serious radio. Anyone with a brain was horrified by Penn State. But he dragged it on for years in chicago market.

Nonetheless, the score line up and espn is just flat out boring right now.

Media cycle moves so fast that in a few weeks this will be not be on anyones mind.

it just announced that Goff is staying at Bulls post-game on the new network.

So you'd think that'd take him out of the afternoon show.

That's if they are hiring a full-time co-host at all. Goff could feasibly do both and just take off when times conflict (and The Score is airing the Bulls anyway).

Because you just gotta make accommodations for a talent like Jason Goff ::pounds console::

This could be why it is taking so long to get an announcement from the SCORE on what they are doing.

They could also have Goff in mid days.

This board has been here over 20 years, and some things remain the same, which is the hate for anything Goff, Holmes, or Hood. Too black.

Also, Goff is more than happy with The Full Go podcast, and re-upping the Pre/Post with Bulls. Most importantly, he enjoys being able to pick son from school which may not be possible with being on The Score full time.

Now come on Crest, me and you both have been here since the days of posting Hood's past due bills and his face super imposed on Michelin Man.

on the whole I agree re: Goff

I think Holmes is also hated but for other well documented reasons. Speaking for myself, Holmes is a totally fine radio host but an annoying personality. Whereas Goff has the opposite problem to me: seems like a fun hang and knows sports, but simply sucks at being able to converse in an audio format IMO

Hood is good, but not good enough (for me, and the board in general apparently) to actually listen to his show. Maybe Kaplan hate overcomes and Hood love.

I dont think that is a fair assessment of the entire board. I am sure it exists in places. But there are plenty of people around here that like Larry and Hood specifically.

I loved Goff with B&B and in his fill in roles during that time. I was hopeful of him getting a shot at a show. But when he did he changed. He was awful.

Maybe if he gets another chance I will like him again.

I hate Homes because he said Bears fans secretly love Aaron Rodgers because of their "psychology" the day after the "I own you" game. He's also a very phony fake tough guy that is extremely combative if you text any disagreement into the station and he shares opinions on there he would never say over the air. Also the Alabama super fandom after getting an online degree from them which also led him to say "Bryce Young is Drew Brees" and then basically never bringing Bryce Young up ever again after Young got exposed as the child playing with men that he is.
