It's time for a clean slate. Mulligan is old and tired, Haugh adds nothing, Marshall and Leila can go do the news in Spokane, Spiegel is the reverse Dan Bernstein in that he's a sidekick who burns through hosts, and Leery can go be buried next to Dan like he's a pharaoh or something. Let go of the past, dream it all up again.

If I’m Bernstein I’m posting that video of Anna Kendrick singing “You’re gonna miss me when I’m
Gone” and then never poast again.

The real issue is that they are owned by a company that is doing a managed decline, which is probably the reason Dan was really fired here. Slowly bleeding listeners is part of the plan. They don’t actually want a successful radio station so this opportunity will pass as nothing more than the final nail in WSCR’s coffin. Perhaps sports radio in Chicago in general.

This. Unless you’re Brick who wanted the “smart” score. That talked down to him.

Mac was awful at the end of his career, but a genial brand of awful.

There's no farm system. If there was, they wouldn't have to hire NOT FROM HERE people. WSCR is well and truly boned.

Bernstein has been terrible for the better part of the last decade. I would still listen to him occasionally hoping that one day he might return to the pre-paterno form. That clearly never happened. I don't need to tune into Spiegel or Holmes to know that they are absolute shit to listen to. They will never be interesting, they will never get better and they will never go away. They are both Miltons, that instead of being relegated to the basement office are somehow on the air for the afternoon drive. Julie's social media misadventures of hold my beer takes are somehow more interesting that just about anything at this station. The morning show is the equivalent of reading the sports section of the paper first thing in the morning. You get the run down of everything that has happened over the last 20 hours and then move along. After that its just hours and hours of filler crap.

Social media has pretty much killed everything. Sports talk radio is irrelevant in 2025.

I can imagine it. Craig Karmazin is enough of a radio geek to scoop up Bernstein (especially at a steep, threatened-a-civilian discount).

The station is in serious trouble. David Haugh may be the face of the station now. Holmes thinks he probably is.

Mully is a nice guy, but he's mixing up people's names, is randomly out, etc. I don't think he'll be there long.

Marshall has no business hosting a show. Friendly enough isn't a qualification.

Spiegal and Holmes are veterans who they will probably elevate now in importance. That's not a good direction.

Leila thinks she is smart, and communicates well, but isn't more than a sidekick.

Guys like Grote, Rongey are not answers....

Not sure what they ultimately do, but the entire station has gone very left (unfortunately we know this because they tell us). Maybe getting rid of Bernstein and Parkins leaving begins to self-correct, but how about hire people for talent vs. other considerations.

Mac on social media. Assuming he is talking about Mully

Quote:
Great day for a Facebook flashback. The station's future is in his hands... and Laurence's. I'm rooting for Marshall & Leila to make the ascent. Time will give us the answer if they can. The "tumor" is in morning. Only show in the country where the program director can make the 4:45am team meetings but the "lead host" cannot.

It's weird that these people don't realize AM radio has been dead for a long time.

There is no talent going into this industry. There is no future.

Yeah, it’s weird though because mornings are pretty much on autopilot (as mentioned, they have the built in advantage of mostly just reviewing the prior day’s events).

Dan questioning others dedication is ironic

The morning show does what it’s supposed to do and it reflects in the ratings. That’s not where you make your change in this crises. Mully is mid 60s. That situation will resolve itself organically

We have now entered the Sir era as fots. Enjoy

Exactly. He may stroll in a bit late but I don’t recall Mully ever abandoning his show (at least physically).

Id love to know how many times Mitch made the 445am " team meetings" , whatever the fuck that is. Thats what you pay producers and interns for. Prep the show for the talent. No one is coming in an hour before the show starts especially that early . Just leave the notes on the console Dustin, ill look them over before we go on air.

Speaking of people with no self-awareness, Dan Mcneil enters the chat.

Danny Mac tries to come off as some enlightened veteran of the industry who praises Dan Bernstein and others despite them shitting on him for years...

Then he goes on to take shots at guys like Mulligan who have probably never said a bad word about him. And to top it off, he criticizes their work ethic despite his own flakiness and lack of professionalism being the reason he has lost many of his own jobs.
