Yeah, it's easy to look back and blast them for that. I had no doubts going into game 6. To this day I have never been more confident of a team. They had Prior on the mound at home. That game was over before it began. I was already thinking WS appearance.

Game 7 was a different story. Even with Wood pitching, I had no confidence they were going to win the game. I kept waiting for them to blow it and they did. I have not been the same sports fan since that day. I turned 20 that year, and in many ways my sports innocence was destroyed on that brisk fall night.

same here. But I was real confident with Prior. I was at game 7 and people were already starting to mourn. Even when Wood homered, there was a sense of impending doom. 23.

somebody re-post the Cubs versus Chapman numbers. Terry just said the Cubs "hit him well".

Everyone was saying the same thing about the 03 Cubs going into Game 6 and 7.

I was talking about the 2004 team that led the wild card for most of the year and let it slip away in the last week of the season. Dempster blew a save vs Mets by giving up a HR to a kid from Clemente HS who I don't think even played past 04.

My bad it was LaTroy Hawkins, and he gave up a 3run HR to Victor Diaz.

Because of the year they were having, I felt pretty good even going into Game 7 ... the new kid finally had a horrible moment, but the veteran would set shit straight, and they (we) would overcome. Hell, the HR he hit pretty much put me back in the stratosphere.

Obviously, that wore off soon thereafter when the same old Cubs routine I'd known for decades came back home to roost and I've been muttering "5 fucking outs" ever since.

Wow. I didn't feel all that great going into 6 and 7 and I checked out after game 6. That did it for me regarding the Cubs. I will never think anything is a sure thing ever again .

Everyone also forgets that Big Z blew a game 1 lead.

I think that was the Sammy Sosa gold sombrero game as well. That day was one of my worst in Cub fandom.

These are great. A naive baby faced Kirkwood was so confident the Cubs would clinch up 3-2 I bet with my pops 100 bucks. He told me I'd regret my wager as he's always won betting against the Cubs ever since they crushed him as a yute. The fucker was right.

Edit: He didn't collect the $100. Told me this was a great teaching opportunity. Abandon the Cubs while you're still young.

I was in my junior year of college at a sports bar, laughing my ass off at all the sad Cubs fans.

2004 hurt worse than any other year. It was supposed to be redemption. Nomar was the final piece (replacing Alex Gonzalez). I really didn't think they would do it but a small part of me still hoped. After 2004 I wasn't the same Cubs fan. I've only been to two Cubs games a season on average after that.

I've posted a few times that I personally felt 04 hurt even more than 03 because it was a slow death.

I haven't been the same since 08.

I was convinced in 2007 and 2008 that they were a paper mache collection. Even with Lou at the helm, who I thought was a genius hire by Hendry.

84 pissed me off but 03 set me straight regarding my team.

Win it and then I'll have some faith.

Watching Dempster completely melt down in game 1 of 08 really justified it for me. Guy was nails at home and shits the bed. The rest of the team followed suit.

Hawkins gave up the Diaz Home run but Dempster gave up the walk off in extras

Prior was hitting his stride at the end of 04 too

Don't we have a Cubs section so that you losers can be quarantined to cry in your beer and not infect us with your loserdom?
