Are you aware how much revenue Illinois and Purdue have had while being pretty bad at football?

Yeah, and they should get paid: $2,000 to $3,000 a month. Again, this is what the big schools want. It's being stopped by the schools that truly don't make any money.

The scholarships are incidental and insignificant. They certainly have no relation to the market rate for the skills required. Are you no longer a capitalist?

Where does that number come from? Interestingly enough, it's almost the exact same number I think Bill Gates and Warren Buffet should receive for their societal contributions.

If that was true, a minor league system that pays better would be out there.

That is the true answer. If you think there is such a market for this product then form a league and pay the players what they "deserve".

A lot of players don't bring 200,000 worth or revenue to their schools though. If players were allowed to be taxed and paid by boosters id be fine with that.

The funny is though, dozens of players would probably cost themselves millions in the long run under that system.

Well, it is a more accurate representation of the true cost of living. It reflects a fairly standard pay rate for someone at that age who is working. When you include the other benefits, it puts them above the average American household in terms of compensation. It makes sense when you look at other age/experience based sports systems like in baseball and hockey.

Then the vast majority of players would get nothing because they aren't what sells tickets. They would be paid less than minor league baseball players.

Of course I am a capitalist. In no way is our university system a capitalist system. The public universities are state subsidized. The private ones have large endowments. College student loans are heavily subsidized by the Federal government. Sports are not their primary business. Without the education system, they would not have fans as most fans have a linkage to the university as a student or parent of a student. If it were a capitalist system, then most sports would not exist in their current college form.

College and amateur sports have a historic place in our society. The money earned by colleges doesn't flow back to a group of shareholders. It is reinvested back into the university and benefits all students. The entire education and college experience is somewhat communal in that the ideas and experiences are shared among the members.

If you want to turn our colleges into a for profit system, sell off shares to the public, make students incur the full burden of the education and pay the players, then we're talking capitalism.

Colleges are akin to a public good that benefits society as a whole. Trying to change that deal, breaks the historic purpose of the system.

That's wrong. Manziel can't play without an offensive line.

Then why do QB's make so much more than O linemen?

Gerry DiNardo was on Leery's show the other evening and my god, he was so far to the right on this issue, he made Brick sound like Bernstein. Guy wasn't even this pissed about Penn State boy rape. "I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN THIS YOUNG MAN'S EXPERIENCE THAT MADE HIM WANT TO GO AGAINST HIS SCHOOL AND DO THIS!" I know the slavery allegory is rather gauche, but he sounded like a plantation order. "And here I thought I treated them so well!"

Oh, and thanks to Zach, we can now confirm that Leery was referring to "Kenny's Irish Pub" as "Kinney's Irish Pub."

 Yeah.

Though, I did agree with him that Coulter should explain what is bad about Northwestern since he's trying to unionize based on poor treatment he received.

He'll just have to accept his Northwestern degree as a consolation prize instead of the hundreds of thousands of dollars no one ever would give him.

The year the Packers won the Super Bowl, they were 2nd in the NFL in defensive DVOA (1st against the pass).

Terry also believes that Tom Brady won the first two Super Bowls in which he appeared and lost the last three.

The pity party for Johnny Football is getting a little old.

He's going to be set for life in a few months. He also got paid a lot in college anyways(under the table).

Well, I'm just pretty fucking certain Gerry DiNardo would be singing a different tune if there was an association controlling all the coaching jobs setting compensation for coaches at $60,000 a year. He got 60 grand for fucking around on a football field???? What makes him hate LSU???????

Nope. He's already earned millions. It just went into someone else's bank account.
