But it's just wrong. bernstein was right a couple years ago when he said all that snarling and bad body language didn't mean a thing. It's all about on-field performance and nothing more. We hate Jay because he's a horseshit quarterback. Not because he gets snotty with Brad Biggs at a press conference. Cutler is who he is. Yesterday, someone posted a picture of him at Revolution Brewing. His wife and other friends all seem to be having fun and he's got that sour ass look on his face. That's him. And no Bear fans cares about that. We care about how he plays. And he sucks. People didn't embrace McCown because he's a nice guy. They embraced him because he played a run of games that was better than anything Cutler has ever done or ever will do in his career.

To further your argument, I would point out that Jim McMahon was a far bigger asshole than Cutler has been. Yet he was beloved--and his obnoxious behavior was frequently celebrated.

it's very strange that Bernstein has long been a proponent of 'it doesn't matter, why do you care' when it comes to Cutler's attitude, up until the point where it disappointed his bosses. I suppose there's a point to be extrapolated where if he can't change that, he also probably can't change his quarterbacking, but Bernstein isn't that good of a columnist I guess.

What?

Somebody emailed in yesterday with some quote from Serge about germs. I didn't care enough to pay attention to what his point was.

I was too busy trying to get my eyes recalibrated down from the eye-roll position.

He did actually say something similar to that. It was something about how he isn't going to change and how you'll get those amazing throws and then terrible throws. Really, it seems like even they have given up on him being anything more than he is. That's kind of a problem when you are one game into one of the richest contracts in NFL history.

It's also I problem when you're the asshole that spent the better part of five years screaming at callers and calling them retarded for the mere suggestion that perhaps Jay Cutler wasn't as good as the 1-6 show was making him out to be.

Without context, do any of you think he might be talking about Cutler?

It's more true of Cutler than it is of Mccown. Mccown was extremely patient and threw check downs and curls quite often. He didn't have the talent, but he was an actual quarterback who only took the deep shots when it was necessary (as opposed to Cutler who throws a bomb every other play). You don't put up McCown's numbers by just throwing the ball up to big receivers. He operated THIS offense better than Jay Cutler has ever dreamed.
