Not wanting to start another thread a la Beardown, I'll just stick this here ..... about 90 minutes ago Hub fired off a screed calling for Trestman and Kromer.

http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dfA4G

Hub Arkush: Chicago Bears need to fire Marc Trestman, Aaron Kromer

It has come to this. If Marc Trestman and Aaron Kromer are still in their jobs with the Bears by the end of the day Friday all hope is lost for the George McCaskey-Phil Emery regime.

It is one thing to be losing football coaches. Those guys are all over the league and they keep getting rehired all the time.

But it is another thing entirely to be the laughing stock of the entire National Football League and today that is exactly what the Bears are.

Why Trestman, you ask, when it was Kromer who messed the bed this time?

Is it possible to believe for a second that Trestman didn’t know what was going on before Kromer went into that meeting room and completely destroyed any of the very tiniest remnants of trust and respect these Bears players may have had left for this coaching staff? And lets face it, there sure couldn’t have been much.

If Trestman knew, he needs to be replaced for allowing it to happen. If he didn’t know, that’s even a greater indictment of this clown show he’s produced and it’s way past time he was fired.

This could be Emery’s last chance to save his job because certainly this is even more his mess than the coaches. He’s the guy who embarked on the longest, most thorough and ridiculous coach search in NFL history to bring his team to where it is today.

He may need to go too, possibly even sooner than later. Minimally he needs a football person installed above him who gets it and can guarantee this will never happen again.

But the jury is still out on Emery as a scout/personnel director, and by doing what needs to be done today, he can at least show that he gets what a mess he’s made and he’s willing to do the hard things to try and clean it up.

It isn’t looking good, but it’s still at least a few weeks too early to say all hope is lost with Emery as it is with these coaches.

Mention of Ted Phillips here is ignorant. He gave us the circus of the last few years of the Jerry Angelo, Lovie Smith, Pep Hamilton, Mike Martz, Shane Day, Mike Tice fiasco, answered it with this and shouldn’t be allowed in the room when the adults are talking football.

Phillips is obviously very good at squeezing nickels and I’m sure the McCaskeys are thrilled to have him. Fine by me but, get him the hell away from the football team.

Which brings us to George. As the Chairman, George McCaskey is the last line of defense for his family and Bears fans everywhere and only he can put an end to this public nightmare.

The debate about money is silly. We can total up all the damages later once the dust settles, but my quick math and estimation tells me it could cost the Bears about $8.5 million to fire Trestman and Kromer, and between $14 million and $16 million if it comes to blowing up the whole staff and Emery.

Any one who doesn’t understand that the value and eventual revenues of this business have been damaged by more than $15 million with the embarrassments of this season and in particular the last 24 hours has no business running this business.

What about Jay Cutler? Another time please, he’s an innocent victim in this conversation and it has nothing to do with him.

Let me make this as clear as I possibly can. I really like Emery and Trestman, I believe they are good people and there aren’t enough of those in the world today. Honestly I don’t really know Kromer but he seems like a good guy too.

And I know Christmas and good will towards all is right around the corner.

Suggesting these guys get paid millions of dollars to go sit at home and watch with the rest of us as someone else tries to clean up their mess isn’t that horrible a thing, it is what’s right.

The Chicago Bears were once one of the greatest teams in all of sports, today they are a punchline and it makes me want to cry.

It can be fixed, but that hard work has to start today.

I predict, heeeeyyy say it like you mean it, Dan will:

-Use the words "Optics" and "Czar" no fewer than 10 times each
-Scream follow up questions in his Outraged Serious Journalist voice during the press conference(s)
-Find a way to tie the Kromer leak back to Brandon Marshall's presser and post-game tantrum so he can spend a whole segment yelling about Marshall.

Dan "Carl" Bernstein: "People are meeting, and I've been told that the there's a possibility that Phil Emery and the entire McCaskey family hold a joint press conference where they shoot themselves in the head in front of everyone a la Budd Dwyer. This is Plan A, there is no plan B. There are very serious talks taking place as we speak. But, I'm told not everyone is on board so, who knows maybe nothing will happen."

Terry Boers: "Ah, yeah, ya know, I talked to my guy and he agrees with your guy, uh, that's exactly how it is, but we'll see."

Are you saying he'll ask the questions himself, or just yell "FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS!!!!" over the audio? Because he's done both in the past.

I was thinking he'd take us all to journalism school and put all those hacks who actually cover the team to shame. He'll ask the questions everyone else is afraid to! :x

God forbid there is a background noise that remotely resembles laughter.

And if One. Single. Media. Member. wears a tie, shirt or other clothing accessory that has blue and/or orange they are going on the "Bus List". Blue jeans are OK as long as they are light blue or acid washed.

This Kromer guy sounds vaguely like Bill Dauterive.

I thought Cutler did very well with what he had to deal with, particularly given his (right or wrong) prickly reputation.

Ok, time to turn it off. I can't take anymore of Dan's know-it-all stance.

100% agree.

I want to hear Trestman. He might as well walk up to the podium with a wig and a big red clown nose on.

I'm going through the podcasts today so I'm behind, but have thought both Mully and Mannelly did good jobs adding 'insider' perspective without just barfing 'my guy' stuff. To put it in Dan terms, it's unfortunate he is going this route. He's smarter than that.

Someone asked Dan who he would want as coach since he wants Trestman out. Dan's response was, "That is not what today's show is about!" Every time a caller calls in and wants someone gone, Dan loves to ask who they should hire instead.

If there's any mystery still, all of these "sources" are just Dan's opinions. He probably thinks of himself as some sort of literary source.

Just like the guy who doesn't like to make predictions, neither do his sources. Anything can happen, and will.

There's probably some people who don't think that management need to as well, and some other who think Emery should talk as he usually does, after the season is over.

Good for Hub. He is the only Bears reporter with the balls to say this. Zach should take note.

What do you want to hear Trestman say? Like 95% of the other coaches in league, they say nothing of importance, just a bunch of long sentences with no detail. He's going to say that this is private/team manner, will be handled internally, everyone loves each other, and can't wait to play football on monday night.

Ugh ....

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/12/12/baffoe-the-chicago-bears-the-joke-that-doesnt-quit/

...

But the Bears were FUBAR months ago. They could have chosen to be that same joke your uncle tells at every family get-together. You know, like the New York Jets. This team took the joke less traveled by, though, and that has really made a difference in the level of respect they’ve garnered.

They are now that cousin who was a few years older than you who went away to art school and showed up for the holidays all in everybody’s face with how liberated she became and how you Midwestern prudes had never looked at the absurdity of the real world. She opened your eyes about just how sick and twisted society or a professional football team can be. She told you the joke called “The Aristocrats.”

That’s what the Bears have become. Comedy for comedians. Postmodern comedy that your parents furrow their brows at and your grandparents would call the police about. Something truly appreciated by only those who understand that an envelope has to continuously be pushed, even if it’s already past the toilet and somewhere in the septic tank. The kind of important work that got Lenny Bruce thrown in jail years ago only to have comedic history prove the haters fools. The Bears know that one day years down the road people will look back and see the Cutler contract as comedic genius that never got its due in its day.

I certainly understand why the Jets have become the go-to comp for organizational buffoonery, but the Bears are ten times the clusterfuck the Jets are right now.

KROMER IS STILL EMPLOYED !!!????

This team is so much more fucked up than I even gave them credit for.

The minute this story breaks, Kromer gets called into the principal's office and is shitcanned on the spot. Hand him an empty box and tell him to clean his office out. The fact that the GM or head coach didn't demand this should tell anyone named McCaskey with half a fucking brain (if that even exists) that the wrong fucking people are in charge of this team.

I am going to be extremely pissed if they win another game this year. Pile on to the "national laughing stock" status.
