I listened to the last 20 minutes or so and Bernstein became unhinged at the callers, yelling at most of them right out the gate...including the usual "If you don't like it, don't listen! We've been mocking callers for 15 years!" But it hasn't been like this for 15 years. The level of contempt and outright nastiness has risen significantly, maybe since the Penn State thing.

The ripping of callers (which I'm not necessarily opposed to if it's done cleverly and humorously) and the made up bullshit of their "sources" are making it a very painful listen.

It;s because little Danny hates his life and what it's become. He's not the big shot of media doing national pbp like he wanted; he's not hosting big time studio shows on CBS or ESPN like Mike Greenberg ( someone he feels is far beneath him); he didn't have the forethought to create fan graphs or deadspin or bleacher report or any of the things he quotes, and he sits and quotes them but gets angry since he's smarter than the guys who actually created those entities .

He now realizes that what he maneuvered for has made him miserable. When he thinks about the people he has to talk to, the people he considers beneath him or to him do not have his smarts, all bernsy can do is look and realize what a miserable failure he his - and that is what he takes out on listeners.

I'm guessing that's pretty close to the truth. It sucks to not be as good looking as Mike Greenberg.

The show is the enemy of anything even remotely resembling intelligent discourse, and the bar for intelligent discourse on sports-talk radio is pretty low.

I'm still stunned that Boers make $500,000 a year. You could have a "Terry Boers Soundboard" with about 10 different sounds and it would be at least several days before anyone knew that Terry wasn't actually there.

I imagine the real object of his frustration is Seth Davis.

yeah, it's noticeably worse. Hell, even in the past couple weeks it's seemed worse than previously. Dan/Terry being reporters is maybe as much of a sea change to this show as the Penn State stuff a few years ago.

I went to one of the hours yesterday after reading here there was some Dan meltdown. I couldn't find it (or maybe did and it was nothing noteworthy) but did hear a caller come on and ask about the golden age of Chicago coaches we're in now. Dan basically ended it saying that was what the MidDay show was discussing, and they did so again in transition. Thing is, Dan is correct that it didn't need to be talked about again, but then why was this caller on the air? I still maintain it's a lack of screening, not heavy screening, that does this show in.

These fools have made quite the assholes of themselves the past week, they will berate a caller that doesn't approve of the Fox hire and then bring on Hub that parrots the same shit the last callers said. Yeah, Mike Shannhan is the better candidate, yet seven fucking teams that had openings, not a damn one called Shanny. SO I guess everyone is wrong and Hub is right? The bait is right there to take, but they only can bully callers, not bullshitting guests.
