everybody missed the best one today, apparently. A guy called in and said he was called stupid for challenging a trade that would have sent Mirotic, Gibson and somebody else to Minnesota for Love. They said they never said that. I'm pretty sure they were advocating that trade...

Mirotic, Gibson, and Snell. They were definitely for it at the time. One, because you get Kevin Love. Two, because he comes to the Bulls and not the Cavs. They were all for it.

"Word is, Aldridge wants to escape from Portland's rebuilding project and has made it known that he'd like to land in Chicago. Deng for Aldridge won't get it done. The Blazers want Joakim Noah in return and the Bulls don't want to give up the superior defensive big man."

Did they just give a crap to Scottie Pippen about something he said as a joke in a commercial?

it's the same thing that happened in philly with the philies. when i came back after they won the series, everybody was donning phillies shit, and all my friends out there now talk about the phillies as if they've been fans forever. there was nary a phillies cap in that area between 1996-2006. sports radio never talked about the phillies except in passing jest (sound familiar, hockey horn?).

sports fans rule.

Idk, I think it might be a little different. My dad was a big hockey fan, played when he was younger. Like a lot of people when he was in his 30s he was busy with other stuff. When they took the Blackhawks home games off he said he wasn't going to waste his time following a team that he could only watch half the time. I went to some hs games because a friend played and I thought it was good but felt why should I follow a team that I can't watch? So I never got into it.

The games when on tv and I watched, then we went to a few. My son plays and we watch almost every game. It's huge for him. That has always what sports has been about for me, the relationships that are strengthened by watching sports. Golf is okay but I'd watch it with my grandpa, I loved baseball when I'd watch it with my other one. We'd talk about other stuff too and even if you argue it's a safe argument.

It also helps that for the last 8 or so years they've been great. The fans have been welcoming and willing to help too. It's a fun experience all around.

the phillies once had that city in their clutches too. there are philly sports writers who could tell you that it was a baseball town. in 1980 when they won the world series, my dad was celebrating with all the neighbors and my mom thought a riot broke out. she was guarding us like a mother hen. but philly is not a baseball town. it's a football town and hockey town first and foremost. when the phils and sixers are good, people will come out of the woodwork. but only when they're good. eagles and flyers can suck the root and the stadiums will still fill up.

i'd have to see this blackhawks fandom sustain another bad era and see the stadium rock as hard as it is now to believe this is truly a hockey town.

Interest will go down some but I do think they have a bigger group of young people that will be fans for a long time.

Yea, my Daughter is a senior in college and her group of friends gets together in their Hawks jerseys for every game. Its an event. They dont do this for any other sport, except for a few Bears games.

Do you think they will have the same enthusiasm when they are bad?

I feel like the hockey programs near me have grown. They are getting the young ones, and have programs or a place for kids that don't want to or can't play competitively. 3 on 3 type stuff. I see more ice rinks at friends houses and a lot of winter days the park district rinks are fuller than they once were.

That is indeed a memorable exchange.

I guess we now know how you developed your scintillating conversational skills.
