It never ceases to amaze me how terrible a writer Dan is. I don't mean that in the sense that, say, Malcolm Gladwell is a terrible writer, which is to say his prose is credulous and boring and self-important (though Dan's writing is certainly all of that). I mean it in the simplest and most literal sense, i.e., that Dan is awful at using words to express himself.

This is essentially Dan's point in reverse. All that crap comparing prop bets to the stock market is just a coded way of saying that rich people are rich because they're smart, so poor people forking over their life savings to Bob Kraft is just another tableau in Dan's Social Darwinist wet dream.

I love your opinions on Bernsie. They line up with mine closely. However, you are willing to consume Bernstain soup, while I just like reading hate posts about it.

BTW, I always found Champaign to be a dump. I lived in the Six Pack.

I can certainly understand this; I haven't listened to the show in months, but I come here at least four times a week to check on the show threads.

Really? I liked C-U a lot, though I haven't lived there since 2010 or so.

I was only there for school, so my perspective might be skewed.

Dan has made it apparent that he knows very little about "Money Matters!" Besides, the rich people he slavishly sucks up to wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire.

He sooooo wants to be the guy everybody else reads on their shows. But that ship sailed a long time ago.

His transition from an enjoyable sports talk host to a wanna be sports intellectual is sad.

One thing I know happens is radio shows across the country need other hosts etc. from around the nation to fill time. Example is Mike Madden here or the guy from Seattle Mac and Spiegs found and he continues. I am out here and also consume national radio. I have never once heard B or B as a guest on any radio show ever as a segment. Has anyone else?

I can't say this sentence out loud. I don't mean "I can't say this out loud without it sounding foolish or contrived," I mean I literally cannot say it out loud: the end keeps coming out halfway between "flimsy linguistics" and "flimsy linguini." Maybe reading the column gave me a stroke.

FU. Cub fans have more right to be excited about success than any other team in baseball.

When I was at Game 2 of the NLCS in 2003, it was the most electric environment I'd ever been in...and the game hadn't even started. There was a literal buzz in the air. Never heard anything like it before or since.

Cub fans can't act like they've been there before because they haven't.

I forgot you were at game 2 as well. I remember walking west down Addison after the game and high fiving all the people in their cards. Nobody was going anywhere for a while. What a feeling of euphoria that was...but it makes me more guarded now, not excitable.

I was also at game 2. It was great.
I was in the neighborhood for all of the games, but that was the only one I had tix to.

One of you long time guys (not long time guy) will know this: How exactly old is WYC? Was it from the first year of the SCORE?

First couple years of the Score from the old Ditka show with Mike Pyle running interference. They had rotated the hosts every week and Terry and Mac had their turn and Terry asked the question that will live on forever.

Yeah. I thought it cleared it actually.

I prefer to remember it as Alex Gonzales "best game of the NLCS"

This segment did hit an all time low today. He said a few times to call if you "get the bit". He then read this "crap" that wasn't "the bit" at all. Followed by a few more long winded e-craps that weren't "the bit". They were blatant partisan craps that weren't "the bit".

WYC was Terry's thing. It used to be funny and lighthearted. Now it is nothing more than an opportunity for Dan to espouse his political views by reading e-craps that he probably authored himself (at a minimum were edited by him). Too bad Terry doesn't care enough anymore to say anything.

I really do not see why they do not retire it. They seem to dislike it and as you said beg for callers. Just end it. Who cares?

I had no idea it was like 23 years old. Maybe instead of saying "that's the essence" they should precisely explain to these high-functioning apes what an act of verbal hypocrisy is. Limit it to once a month and then you should have a decent pool of actual instances that measure up to the bit's standards instead of half the material being occasions where a commentator misspoke.

You are talking about the world record laziest produced radio show in history.

I fear that would simply give Danny time to write more political craps. Just let callers crap misspeaks, that could at least be funny. No reason that WYC should be SERIOUS.RADIO.

Seriously, what's the point of WYC? They go on and on about they want live phone-in craps, they don't want to read emails, and no political partisanship. So what happens? The first caller starts crapping Dan, and gets cut off before he can say WYC. They read an email (the type that reads/sounds like Dan wrote it). Next caller (Mr. Mouth?), he gets on Dan and he gets cut off before the punchline. Another email where Dan reads with professional inflection. Another caller, and another caller getting cut off. So what's the point?

The bit started in SCR's first year (1992) back when the coach and players would have a Tuesday luncheon somewhere and field softball questions. McNeil and Boers/Hanley had Ditka, and Ditka was on his coaching ropes with the Bears and the Chicago media. In many ways Terry made his "bones" with that comment as he became less a newspaper columnist and more a talking head.

When you think about it, like so many other concepts that never get re-tooled this is one that no longer has any real point or purpose. If Dan can't handle getting crapped, if he says no emails but fills the bit with emails, and if politics are going to be one-sided discourses that are more contrived than clever, then it needs to go the way that any "intelligent" host would take it, which is kill it.

Hell, Ted Koeppel didn't plan on a career as the host of Nightline, and when he left it didn't comparatively last too much longer.

Bottom line: It is no longer interesting or relevant as the concept has jumped the shark in the mind of one host but he has nothing to offer in its place (I don't think Terry was in studio today, but that was based on the awkward transition where Jason didn't recognize Terry's presence).
