Well, the charity is about helping kids, and Dan brought Greg’s kids into the fish fray.

It could be One Step was looking to get rid of him anyway. He’s probably an annoying arrogant prick at those board meetings. Sadly, cancer affects Dems and Reps equally, so Dan’s well-known anti-MAGA views likely alienated 50% of the people involved with that charity.

And aside from raising money, Dan has some wealth and can still donate. Anonymously, if he so chooses. Of course, that wouldn’t feed his ego.

I don't recall him mentioning the origin of his involvement. Likely a friend of his.

I do recall him talking about not only fundraising but being on the ground as part of the camp and interacting with the kids, which is what deepened his emotional connection to it.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they needed volunteers that he'd continue in that capacity, and donate, even if the camp doesn't want him public-facing anymore

I don't think such a stance, let alone simply being arrogant, would 'alienate' people involved in a charity for something that, like you said, affects everyone

but yes, getting in a confrontation and bringing kids into it would be beyond anti-MAGA views
