I really believe my favorite part is how many people believe Mitch and 670 have any say, they don’t.

I think the only thing to do now is find that fish: Dead or Alive.

10 years ago (pre-Entercom takeover) he would've had a say. That's why he was able to part with Danny Mac around that time. Once the Entercom and later Audacy suits took over, Mitch became little more than a middle manager with little to actually do. In fact, I'm amazed his position even still exists

I'd be curious if at social events or visiting club outings he chooses to share that he is a "Director for a Cancer Research group" or a "Sports Radio Host".

there are 2 realities to keep in mind :

1. bleeding gills is not a death knell for a fish. it happens, and fish can recover just fine.
2. Northern pike are largely an unwanted game fish. they are prolific breeders and without culling can take over a body of water. Out of water they are slimy and stinks like ass and are tricky to clean. I've never met a person who complained about the possible demise of a northern pike. Muskies.....a totally different animal....literally and figuratively.

i know more people that would be mad it was released and "took off like a rocket"

as an aside, pike are not allowed in my boat or allowed to be netted by a net I own. watching my dad try and get a hook out of one while leaning over the boat is pretty funny.

Yeah, he's kind of like that elderly relative who has had dementia for a decade and it's just sad having them hang on when they don't resemble their former self.

See thats kind of funny but it isn't. This is really true. He 100% changed at that time. I don't know if maybe he thought he would really become famous off this story like gulf war one wolf blitzer and it didn't happen or if he thought it would land him an espn gig or what ut he put aot of mental eggs in the Penn state basket and it was met with a colossal yawn.

Another point of order: It doesn't appear that Dan ever thought it was a walleye, in fact he didn't appear to initially identify the fish at all. The identity of the fish was first noted by someone replying to Dan's tweet about how surprisingly good fresh pike tastes, and someone responded to that reply with some non sequitur about walleye, and it is at this point that Messenger stepped in and corrected the person that the fish was not a walleye and was in fact a female northern pike which appeared to be dead.

Dan didn't misidentify the fish, it appears, he only heavily disputed the observation that the blood indicated it might have been dead. You may disagree but I've seen enough fish people, and members of Phish People, comment on the picture opining that the coagulated blood indicated the fish was dead. And coupling those accounts with Bernstein's protestations about how the fish was very much alive and apparently very fast, I have been convinced that Dan was happy enough to have won the fight against the fish but hoped nobody would notice he had killed it in the process of catching and photographing it.

no slime....usually.

this came about on a trip to canada. the lake we were fishing we would get bit off all the time tryign to fish for walleye. so i was like lets go after pike. we took this aluminum boat with a aluminum floor to this cove and pitching mepps spinners for 4 hours catching a pike almost every cast. some huge, some small, it was a blast. within a few hours we could barely stand or breath. we were slipping or sliding all over the place, and we STUNK. everything they touched stunk. when I was shopping for a boat, i almost bought one that would of been perfect but I could tell he caught a lot of pike. the whole boat smelled like a foot farted.

anyway, kill em all.

I have caught thousands of fish and have many in the gills and there is nothing in the picture to me that indicates it is deceased. pike are so aggressive they suck in baits farther down than many other fish and as you can see, their gills are right there. as a result a lot of them bleed from hooks. and plenty of them survive it. and i've seen many bleed exactly the way that one did. one of the many fascinating things about fish people and phish people is that they are generally cork on a fork retards who couldn't tell a walleye from a sauger.

Is this guy related to Dan? I was searching for Phil Jackson pictures and saw that this guy took a picture of the 90's bull's years. I wonder if Bernstein wears a wig.

He wasn't happy being a successful shock jock on sports radio. He wanted to do Real. Serious. News.

The Penn State story, while certainly worthy of coverage, wasn't so interesting to Chicago sports fans that a Chicago station should have been devoting so much time to it.

Put Paterno on blast for a couple days, make some jokes about St. Joe of State College, play the "I can't hear you" drop a few times and then move on. Instead, bernstein became obsessed and tried to play Woodward and Bernstein with a story that held little interest for his audience.

I just never got it. Why anyone in Chicago would want that every day for a year is beyond me. Even if you are really against Penn St/Paterno wtf?

By way of comparison, Jim Rome also sorta likewise was at the start of trying to morph from "Chris Everett" into a serious commentator at the time. He and/or his producers realized that enough was enough after about a week of Penn State talk bludgeoning the audience when the Sandusky news broke and washed it away with a personal appearance joke segment (including a caller saying "Romeo Crennel looks like the chocolate monster from Candy Land" IIRC).

That was the right thing to do, but Bernstein went on jackhammering the story through the earth's crust. TB checked out even before his health issues flared up and the show went from great to unlistenable except on Bears Mondays.

I would have gone with the Mellencamp reference, but maybe I'm too normie.

Moreover, he tried again with the Kane stuff which at least was local. His hats of white hockey fanboys(men) blinded him. When that ended badly for him he was toast and done more or less.
