This story gets washed out of memory with the start of the NCAA tournament. If it had occurred on the first day of Bears FA, no one would have even noticed.

We crave distraction.

Put Paterno on blast for a couple days, make some jokes about St. Joe of State College, play the "I can't hear you" drop a few times and then move on. Instead, bernstein became obsessed and tried to play Woodward and Bernstein with a story that held little interest for his audience.

I just never got it. Why anyone in Chicago would want that every day for a year is beyond me. Even if you are really against Penn St/Paterno wtf?

By way of comparison, Jim Rome also sorta likewise was at the start of trying to morph from "Chris Everett" into a serious commentator at the time. He and/or his producers realized that enough was enough after about a week of Penn State talk bludgeoning the audience when the Sandusky news broke and washed it away with a personal appearance joke segment (including a caller saying "Romeo Crennel looks like the chocolate monster from Candy Land" IIRC).

That was the right thing to do, but Bernstein went on jackhammering the story through the earth's crust. TB checked out even before his health issues flared up and the show went from great to unlistenable except on Bears Mondays.

Moreover, he tried again with the Kane stuff which at least was local. His hats of white hockey fanboys(men) blinded him. When that ended badly for him he was toast and done more or less.

The Kane thing is when I turned on Bernstein. I had been a fan of B&B until that moment when it was clear he was pushing against Kane when all of the facts of the case were clearly on Kane's side. From that point forward I went from being a decade long B&B fan to hating Bernstein's guts.

The funniest memory I have of that is his screaming YOU CAN'T SAY THAT. Every time more and more information came out against the accuser and callers wished to discuss there he was yelling at the windmill. More frustrating for Dan's fans is when it was all said and done no mea culpa and barely a mention. On to the next issue.

that was when Julie had first started as their update person after the FM station folded. They'd bring her in as a "legal expert" and she'd just jabber on and on and offer her biased opinion of how things "didnt look good" for Kane and this and that. and then would have what is now common place meltdowns on twitter when she was called out for being biased and no impartiality

I don’t the corporate nipple necessarily agrees with you. Especially a company that has recently made large layoffs and changed CEO’s. They are looking to cut cost in any way, don’t give them an excuse.

If Dan's really loaded up on Zoloft, he definitely shouldn't be drinking. I don't have personal experience with alcohol, SSRIs, or the synthesis thereof, but I've heard enough stories to know it's a bad time.

Pardon my ignorance, but Zoloft being an SSRI is close enough to other anti-depressant medication and they most certainly do not mix well with alcohol.
My ex-wife dabbled in Prozac and Trazodone....when she would drink she turned into an out-of-this-world Psycho....it was Jekyll and Hyde level mess. I wouldn't trust any kind of SSRI with alcohol.

I think Penn State gave him CTE.

See thats kind of funny but it isn't. This is really true. He 100% changed at that time. I don't know if maybe he thought he would really become famous off this story like gulf war one wolf blitzer and it didn't happen or if he thought it would land him an espn gig or what ut he put aot of mental eggs in the Penn state basket and it was met with a colossal yawn.

THIS.
and as others have said. Dude made a career of being a judgmental, condescending prick....It took way too long for someone to knock him off his high horse, but it likely finally happened.

My secondary take on his evolution is his wife's career. With her doing the wedding planning especially high dollar LBGTQ ones he had to stop. He can't be running around with Count Fagula and her trying to be the SJW planner.

His wife could possibly be strangling him now that I think about it. First boobs then Bernstein with Barstool and now this.

Some people have.

I was in Florida last week and some friends were going to Sea World. I asked what was there these days. They got rid of orcas and I'm not even sure you could have a dolphin show. The guy said, "Oh, I think everything is back since Trump got elected."

While Dan is a pompous prick that I mostly can't stand, I will say he is the only person I can still listen to on the Score. Old B&B used to be appointment radio with Friday Fung and Who You Crappin?

Penn State and Kane and eventually Trump broke him as a radio personality and a person, though. But he's still the only one at that station you can tell is an actual radio professional. Most of the rest of them are just larping.

So despite it being pretty damn funny that Bernstein will be undone by a Magat calling him out on a fish, it's also sad that this may be the beginning of the end for him and the Score. Kind of anticlimactic.

We almost booked a Sea World vacation this summer. The orcas are there. They aren't breeding new ones though.

But Sea World is basically a roller coaster park now with animals.

I don't remember the Portnoy buying out the producer for a day thing. How did they get out of it when he won it? Just give back or not invoice the money and cancel?

Wow. This was something.

I didn't realize we had that many "Dan-defenders" (Seaward 10). That's fine; I am simply surprised.

As the late, great Norm MacDonald once said ... the worst part is the hypocrisy.

I've avoided listening to Dan for many years now, but admittedly was a regular listener to B&B. As has been said, the turn from a semi-intellectual approach to sports (with plenty of goofy humor tossed in) to full on determiner-in-chief-of-all-things-right-and-wrong really happened during the whole Penn State meltdown. He spent so much time citing other peoples important work, then having them on to praise their work ethic and fearlessness_in_reporting, that he fully convinced himself that he was a big player in not letting the light dim on the horrid things that were allowed to happen there. Before, during and after the Penn State stuff he was/is a miserable prick as equally stubborn and unable to actually discuss anything as those who he relentlessly mocked and ridiculed (mostly on the opposite side of the aisle).

He has never been able to process things that have been said, or actions taken, with any sort of nuance if that person wasn't "on his team" .... immediate cancel/termination/set on fire if a white guy with a southern accent was the subject.

So while many here can debate his intent/wording, the sheer hypocrisy of the guy to type out threats like that (knowing he's the same guy that will immediately "alert the proper authorities, that's not funny or cute") is perhaps the "worst part" to me. You just can't have it both ways, not when you've spent so much of your on-air/online career doing the opposite.
