No. If it wasnt for Anyone + Spiegs, it would be my least favorite radio show of all time. I'd rather listen to Mully and Hanley.

That was probably the best show in the station's history.

OK... OK... I meant somewhat long running shows. Not a show that was around for 4 months and then discarded.

This guy gets it.
I know I've probably told the story before, but I used to listen to 1000 religiously in the late aughts, mostly for Tony Kornheiser, but I liked DP's old show with Dibble and Phil the showkiller too. I grew to like Huge and Lou. Moved to Los Angeles, came back, and there were these 3 douchebags on the radio instead of Huge and Lou.
I had no idea who any of these people were, and they all irritated the fuck out of me.
So then I found the Score.
Then DANNYMAC replaces Murph..........and brings the giggling walrus with him.
No thanks. between Bernstein becoming unlistenable, and Goff and Holmes, I don't even listen to the Score anymore,
unless it's a Cubs game. Fuck em all.
:bom:

Put me down for hating MJH and anything Mac has ever been a part of. I'm not an old fart, but Mac has always seemed as lazy as Boers, and Boers gets roasted here constantly for it.

At least Terry is funny when he can be bothered to pay attention.

I remember the B&B show was phenomenal before being corporatized (or what have you) ... once the opening roll call of "Ritalin, Diddlin', and Country Fiddlin'" was deemed to risque, it was the beginning of a slow slide downward ... some of it their fault, some of it a product of outside meddlin'.

Dan let himself get too big of a head as well. He's still funny when he's talking about stupid sports stuff and dope callers. When he starts lecturing. people. about. very. important. matters, he sounds a douche. I imagine that a lot of Terry's seemingly laziness is really boredom with having to listen to Dan get on the soapbox at least once an hour.

B&B from 2006-2011 was fantastic radio. The downfall was a snowball (right down the toilet) that went something like

- Penn State
- Derrick Rose gets hurt
- Patrick Kane gets drunk
- White Sox blow the 2012 season
- Jason leaves

The show became particularly joyless throughout the Rose saga and eventually became unlistenable.

Yep...the guy not only ripped Vin Scully but equated the rate of "food insecurity" in Venezuela with that in the US.

Most over-rated perhaps. I listened from sign-on to sign-off in those days and while I liked the HFC, I truly believe that B&B was much better during its prime.

Newper is on my side! JB had a big WYC yesterday when he was criticizing the House for taking too many days off. This coming from the guy who works, at most, 15 hours/week and STILL takes vacation days virtually every or every other week.

That was when I first started listening to sports radio. I didn't realize how bad they were until I experienced other shows. Now I have the damn Rosenblog theme stuck in my head again.

My favorite moment of the Salisbury era was when he was late for the show because he said a Chicago cab driver didn't know how to get to McCormick Place.

You are not in your right mind

Bear and the Bull
Huge and Lou
Tom Shaer
the aforementioned Salisbury

These long running shows all set the standard for bad. Even if you dislike Mac, he could not touch these shows on his worst day.

What about Harry and the dude who had a play in Iowa and went to Dahl's show.

Spike. The other Spike, not the backwoods morning Spike with the Bite Your Butt Mustard.

but you are old enough to remember Dan single handedly dragging ESPN1000 from a national show focused station that had bottom of the barrel ratings into a more locally focused station that knocked the Score off its place as the #1 station in coveted demographics

You are remembering more recent work. There were no harder working sports talkers in this city than Dan and Mike North. They put in OT on everything from promotions to listener development to sales.

I wasn't as Big Fan of B&B as most during its prime. Bernstein had already begun to change at that point from the person I really enjoyed listening to when he was doing weekend, solo, and evening shows. Not that it didn't have it's enjoyable moments, but as I said I preferred the previous version of Bernstein to that one.

Spike Manton?

From what I remember he was not funny. Probably not as soul-crushingly unfunny as Harry, but still not good.

He is now, apparently...creator of highly interactive and hilarious presentations from Health & Wellness to Stress Management to Work-Life Balance and more. He uses his improv training and standup experience to design unforgettable, entertaining performances that have been connecting with groups and companies all over the country.

This must have originally been a GeoCities site: http://spikemanton.com/

MJH was a great show for the first few years. It was a little different yet harkened back to the good days of HFC. Mac was back from the wilderness and had the fire and the passion. Jurko was an unknown and his style and personality hadn't become stale. Somewhere around 2004 the show just got boring and repetitive. Everyone had made bank and the show was on autopilot. Mac started getting really sick of Harry. Same guests, same bits, and same callers. It became radio for middle-aged white men living lives of quiet desperation in the suburbs.

whatever happened to salisbury? IIRC didn't he get a sexual assault claim/charge and get fired from ESPN? i'd guess that nobody else national decided to pick him up and he's prolly doing radio/media in some local market somewhere.
