Lawrence on his small-business podcast "House of L" commented that he has become profitable on his Youtube page so he did thank his listeners.
He is unaware of any decisions that have been made on changes to the station, but will address somethings carefully.
Here goes:
- Congratulations to Danny Parkins for his FS1 job. It's perfect for Danny, he's with his guy Nick Wright and he'll do well. Lawrence has been talking to Danny about this the past few week and, per Lawrence, Danny has been asked to do a lot. Danny will be moving, that's a difficult thing to do, but this is what Danny has wanted. Lawrence hopes he enjoys the views and gives himself advice as he gives Danny advice. They are more similar than we are different. They worked their differences when they started, but Lawrence has always respected his talent.
- The White Sox Play by Play job was Lawrence's dream job. He was close to getting that job a few years ago and is now glad that he didn't get that dream job.
- Lawrence's creative side is trying to be fed. That's being creative by putting the podcast on Youtube or a new comic book concept. He's being fueled to pursue his comic books more.
- Lawrence is working on a local pilot that he's been working on for 2.5 years. It's in it's final stages of being approved. It's stressful, but exciting. It's extremely challenging from a creative standpoint. Originally, he just wanted to produce it. Then he was asked to host it. No other details were provided.
- Lawrence did a podcast recently about starting over in TV. He's not down on his luck. Lawrence saves money. He lives well below his means. No matter what happens, he's well, but he'll be sad if his career at NBC Sports Chicago ends in a few weeks.
- Sometimes you think the places you think the places you're trying to get to is the end game, but it's often not what you think. Lawrence saw a job description a few weeks ago for something he liked, and he may pursue it in the future when he's teaching, but wouldn't reveal what this job was.
- There is a gap at the station with Danny's departure.
- There are things being floated with Lawrence....bring in someone in? promote someone? split Lawrence and Dan up? All kinds of things that could happen that Mitch and Ryan are working through.
- What about Dan and Lawrence moving to afternoons? Imagine drive time as 6-10AM, afternoon drive is 2-6 PM..for radio, your most captive audience is drive time, people in cars. You want to be as entertaining in those area's, your best shows in these spaces. It used to be this way....but over the last 10 years, the concept of drive-time is different and that's because people can listen to the show anywhere with streaming, people at home working, etc....it's a different time now for Lawrence. Dan and Lawrence (and Leila) are mid-day hosts that they are categorized in. They are the 3rd most popular mid-day show in the country (or whatever), but there isn't much difference in cumulative listener audience from morning, mid-day or afternoon/drive time....however there is some prestige about hosting in a drive time.
- Dan and Lawrence has performed very well
- They will continue to do well in whatever time slot and he would love to compete against Waddle/Silvy who do a great job, but ESPN 1000 aren't in the Nielson any longer so he can only compare their show to Parkins/Spiegal.
- Nobody has said anything to him about the direction, but he has been asked. If the show were to be moved or split up, they wouldn't do it without taking your temperature (not permission). If they wanted Lawrence to do a show with someone who he had a beef with, they wouldn't do that unless they thought it would be great. Lawrence and Dan can give opinions, but the management will make final decisions.
- Lawrence....isn't interested in drive-time because that's not what he's trying to achieve. If he spends the next 5 years in mid-days, he won't feel like he was cheated. There was a significant difference though in moving from nights to mid-days. After 7PM, the audience for a sports station goes way down unless there is a live sports on. His show did generate a really good audience though when it was on at night.
- If Dan and Laurence have 200K mid-days and Danny/Spiegal have 250K in afternoons, and Mully/Haugh have 250K in mornings, night time for Lawrence was 75K of people tuning in throughout the show. There is a difference in compensation as well. Lawrence got a major raise moving to middays, but he was hitting bonuses and doing well at nights, but a decent bump for moving to mid-days. He thinks he would get a decent bump moving to afternoons, but he sees the time slots as similar now and that doesn't "drive him". He doesn't need to be the morning/afternoon show as long as he's on the air during the day although being on at night is nice because of the lack of oversight.
- Lawrence does want a Marconi?? award though.
So, nothing new in his podcast except he will do anything, but isnt' being asked and it's not that important to him and he's a radio expert.
tl,dr
