Carmelo and LeBron together is not enough to win a title in Miami - Terry

I'm surprised by those predictions but I don't really disagree.

Terry: Uh, eh, eh, I, I, I, I, look, it's just, just, eh, just a feeling I have, uh, eh, I mean, you know I have a guy who used to cover the NBA, uh, eh, eh, he doesn't anymore, but, eh, he's still in touch, and eh, uh, I, I, he's always said LeBron would return to Cleveland and now, it's, it's, it's just a feeling, just a feeling I have that it's gonna happen.

bernstein: There's no basis for that.

Something along the lines of "It's getting to the point where YOU HAVE TO run your offense through Eddy Curry. He's that good with his back to the basket." Of course once Skiles came aboard and decided Curry sucked, I believe Bernstein turned on him as well.

1. Terry says the Bulls as presently constructed will beat the Heat as presently constructed "like a drum"

2. Ray Allen is NOT coming to Chicago and is going to Miami.

The perception is that Wade can't play anymore. These guys have made that statement. He can still play at a high level, but he's also likely to break down over the course of a season. This past season, he had a great ECF against Indiana, and then sucked vs. SA. I recall their Miami reporter predicting Wade would average over 20 PPG in the finals, and that clearly didn't happen.

The Bulls would beat Miami, but that's a competitive series if Wade is playing. It's not as if Chicago doesn't have their own health concerns as well.

The Bears are much better than 9-7 unless there is a wave of injuries. Both were in agreement.

I thought Bernsie said they were SB contenders if things go well?

Yeah, but this is an actual number.

Super Bowl contender could mean a lot of things.

Did I miss something where the Bears immediately moved up to Super Bowl contender? What did they do that made them that much better than an 8-8 team?

I think the thought was they improved the defense enough (we will see) to do good enough to give the offensive juggernaut a fighter's chance.

Does Bernstein actually watch sporting events?

I'm a big Bears fan, and anything can happen in the NFL, but to suggest that we should expect the Bears to be Super Bowl contenders after last year is absurd.

They had the worst defense in franchise history last year. They've made upgrades on paper, but we have no idea if that will translate to success or even if Mel Tucker has half a fucking clue what's going on.

The offense was good last year, but it's not like they were the fucking Broncos. And let's remember they were better with the backup QB.

The special teams sucked.

They have to go through an NFC that has two historically good defenses, including one that made Peyton Manning look like a child.

They are in a division with the best QB in football.

And last but not least, they have a QB who is frequently injured and has not ever thrown for more than 30 TDs or shown any type of acumen in a "big" game.

I HOPE the Bears overachieve because the love they are getting from some is completely unfounded. These two would carry water for any "smart" coach in town and then preach about journalistic integrity. Pathetic.

The logic seems to be 10-6 ---> fire coach ---> 8-8 ---> Super Bowl contention, which even for Dan is impressively nonsensical. I just don't see how one could make a credible case for the Bears being any better than the 5th-best team in the conference, and even that might be a stretch.

It'd be really fun if the Bears ended up struggling this year, if only because Dan's so dug in on Tremery's genius.

But if you're the 5th best team in the NFC, you're sure as hell a Super Bowl contender. We've seen a handful of WILD CARD teams win the Suber bowl in the last 10 years or so. So I agree with him and I think the Bears are going 12-4 this year.

I mean the top 2 teams in the conference are the Seahawks and 49ers and one of them is gonna be a Wild Card team having to win 3 straight road games to make the Super Bowl.

Nobody in the NFC East is good. I wouldn't consider anybody in that division a SB contender. But somebody is gonna win that division and have a home playoff game.

I think there are 6 SB contenders in the NFC. These are my NFC "Power Rankings"
1. Seahawks
2. 49ers
3. Bears
4. Panthers
5. Packers
6. Saints

I have no idea what would lead you to put the Bears 3rd. New Orleans, Carolina, and Green Bay were far superior last year when healthy.

Bears weren't healthy last year either. Far superior last year? Those teams? No. I think the Bears offense will be better in year 2 under Trestman and they were pretty damn good last year. Defense will be average this year. Not God awful like last year.

I hope you're right but I'm not so optimistic. Briggs and Peanut are old. The FA acquisitions will help more IMO.

And yes... with the Bears defense last year, two of those teams were far superior. The Packers weren't because their D was nearly as bad. They were still better than the Bears though because of the man under center.

Despite the record, I expect a much better team.

Even if they play a much harder schedule this year, they need to be in the playoffs, or you can consider it a HUGE failure. No matter what happens!

Probably 8-8 again. Maybe 10-6. Maybe 6-10. Who knows. They will be competitive though.

They invoke "Super Bowl" without making a commitment to playoffs.

The regular season does matter.
The regular season is how you make the playoffs.
You can't win the Super Bowl without making the playoffs.

Neither of them could predict who would be in the Super Bowl until around 5:50 p.m. (CST) two weeks before the Super Bowl (one of them had to ask his son, the other was staring at the phone waiting on a call).

The Bears will finish 9-7 and Aaron Rodgers will doom their season at some point. This is what's happened the last three seasons, so I feel pretty confident going for #4.

The needle on this team was "pointing up" last year, or that was the perception, because the offense looked like a new team. We saw things offensively that we haven't seen since.................
They should continue to get better.
On paper, they upgraded the defense in multiple areas.

They missed the playoffs by about 2:00 last year. They should improve on that, obviously.

Detroit sucks. Minnesota sucks. NFC East sucks. St Louis, Tampa, Arizona - they suck. I just listed more than half the NFC.
Anybody "scared" of Carolina or Atlanta? They can be good, they could completely fall apart too.
My prediction is that GB is good enough to make the playoffs again, but will struggle like they did last year.

There are lots of reasons for optimism.
