Dan Bernstein; tortured soul. One cannot simply watch video highlights of a sporting event and then combine that with stats to get a solid impression of a game. Not in his line of work. Our hero goes above and beyond his $500k/year salary and actually watches entire sporting events just to be better prepared to yell at callers.

We've gone from "Ted will be moved away from football" to "the structure is fine!" awfully quickly.

Not really sure what in the blue hell more they can give to this guy as far as autonomy goes short of full ownership of the team itself.

Yeah, well, Pace said during the press conference that the McPhillips Albatross will be involved in the interview process for the head coach, and that he will heavily rely upon their "advice" in evaluating candidates. Does that sound like an autonomous football operation to you?

Sounds like he asked for other ears in the room and other opinions to consider before choosing who he wants to hire. I realize many in this thread can't wait to be negative ahead of the pack because, I guess, there's a prize to win or something, but Iil go ahead and wait to see what, if anything, there is to bitch about before bitching about it. I'm okay not being first past the pissy pole.

Christ, man, you verbally eviscerate people for misplacing an apostrophe, but you're all seashells and balloons for the McCaskeys--despite their history of incompetence. Your audacious deference to power is less than inspiring.

Tune in tomorrow when the Bears will be one of the best run franchises in the NFL.

You'd think he would have learned his lesson after the Emery/Trestman/really smart guys/golden age of GM's debacle. But he sooooo wants the Bears to undergo a Cubs-like front office change. They've already got the losing part down, they just need the proper management structure.

I just caught about twenty minutes of this. Has bernstein been going on like this all day? It's like he's working PR for the Bears/Ted Phillips. And he's obviously just wrong. To me being "in charge of football", means that if Pace wants to hire Rex Ryan and pay him what it takes, he can without getting permission. Does anyone really think that's the case? That's the very reason Ballard wasn't the guy in that press conference. He knew exactly how the Bears front office works and he wasn't coming unless he was truly in charge of football operations, something they just weren't going to do.

100% correct.

Fuck, Sweaty Teddy and Teary-Eyed George are going to be interviewing head coaching candidates. WTF?

Yeah, JORR, sounds like Dan was told one thing and something else happened.

Dan's quote on the day of firings was "hopefully a brand new way of doing business at Halas Hall" and "talks resulting in Ted Phillips being laterally moved in the organization are ongoing" But he can't go back now.

And I used to think Zaidman was the unofficial Score Bears PR man. Dan is muscling in on his territory.

For all of Terry's comments about Accorsi's hairpiece, has he ever thought the own combover he's currently sporting?

I remember nearly coming to blows with my grandfather over whether Lou Henson had a rug. Gramps insisted he did and acted like I was out of my mind when I told him that was his real hair.

So Dan is "upset" "perplexed" by the common thought that MCPHILLIPS will be meddling...well didn't Dan's "source" say things were going to be different...but yet...they are not. So WHY should we trust ANYTHING WOULD CHANGE WHEN TED CAME OUT AND SAID TODAY THAT RYAN COMES TO HIM!?!?!??!

What coach or player signing was vetoed by Ted Phillips at any point? I'm perfectly willing to accept it may be a chronic problem, if only there was some clear-cut, non-circumstantial evidence of it happening time and again. I have to presume you have links to stories and reports from people in the know that back your argument, and that you're not just doing your best Scorehead and just saying things are a certain way because you pretty much have decided it is.

If it turns out that Pace can't take a squirt without asking permission, fine, let's all go down and torch the place. I just feel like waiting for actual proof, not just going on conjecture and loose supposition.

Moynihan had it right ... everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not to their own facts ... maybe he followed that up with an exception for the Bears or sports radio, but I've never actually seen that noted anywhere.

I have listened to the entire show today. I think The Score is just running a loop every 15 minutes because I have heard the same thing said repeatedly, over and over and over and over again. I honestly have no idea how Mitch can listen to this and let it continue.

Listened to the show for the first time in months. Heard something to the effect that analytics is not as important in football as it is in baseball. I think Gil Brandt was building a database of college players and statistically ranking them for drafting purposes when databases still only ran on mainframes and accessed by COBOL and ASSEMBLER.
