That just means Bernstein didn't treat him with the typical contemptuous disdain that he does everybody else. Nobody could be close to the weaselly little shit Bernstein.

I have to say, I love that little scamp as well. He's one of those people whose indescretions only make him more charming, like clinton

I know. Terry loves him. I don't like him and hate him more after ICE GIRL. He was never charming and ICE GIRL makes him less charming. If he was a punk kid, I'd think it's funny or cool. He's divorced with a kid and then has 2 more kids with the second wife. Then ICE GIRL after the 2 kids with the 2nd wife. Not charming to me. Not cute.

So when you stated Terry "despises" Drinky, you actually meant he "loves him"?

I corrected that if you read. Loves him but hates the cheating. Since he's not an actual son, he can still love him.

What the everlovin fuck are you talking about?

Terry doesn't like the fact that drinky banged ICE GIRL while he was married with two young kids and with an older kid from a previous marriage!!!!!!

Got it? Is that clear now? Fuck.

Why? Because I'm pretty sure Bernstein and Greenberg were pretty tight at one time.

IIRC Bernstein was invited to, and attended, Greenberg's wedding in NY (or where ever it was on the east coast).

To echo what sinicalypse and a few others have said, it's interesting that they spent about four hours reminiscing on Terry's first seven years with Mac and maybe one on his last seventeen with Senor. Even that's generous because the 5 p.m. hour was mostly the one-on-one with Matt about how deep their friendship grew, and then whatever Leery was going on about, I dunno, I went to get Steak n Shake and that was when I was in the drive-thru so I wasn't really able to catch it.

But to listen to this show, Terry, Mac, and their producers helped build the Score up from nothing, created something that Chicago radio had never heard before and never will again, during which time Terry had depression and wanted to quit his job, but engaged listeners, supportive co-workers/bosses, and an unbelievable esprit de corps helped him redefine the media landscape, and it's a time we'll never forget.

Then Terry did another show for over two decades, and, uh, a guy with some throat condition was on Comcast Sportsnet one time and it was a funny soundbite.

I mean, I guess you could argue that the show before Christmas was the Boers & Bernstein farewell show and naturally this one would focus on everything else Terry did, but if you ever thought B&B were just coasting and not adding anything since, oh let's just pick a completely random point in time and say the Penn State scandal, well, fuel for the fire, I guess.

Oh and good lord Beardown shut the fuck up about the ice girl.

I guess that shows how much I listen to the show. I had never heard of the two having any kind of relationship

i read the "correction". Seems strange however, that you specifically stated he despises Drinky when you actually (apparently) believe he loves him. Even stranger that he can "still love him" since he's not an actual son. You're a weird dude.

Think about what LoHo pulled off here. They could have just refired the show at 6pm.

But they waited until 6:15pm and let LoHo have a prerecorded segment taking credit for the idea.

What a guy. He told Mitch to give him a day off and convinced Mitch and the audience that it was selfless.

Yeah, but Greenberg stayed in Chicago--working at Sports Channel and CLTV-- for the first four years of Bernstein's WSCR career. They were pretty friendly and Greenberg served as a career advisor to Bernstein for an extended period. I think he even tried to lure Bernstein to ESPN at one point but Dan didn't want to give up living in Chicago for a move to the middle of nowhere in Connecticut.

Given this history, it's interesting that Greenberg seems to hold Mac in significantly higher esteem than he does Bernstein.

I guess it's possible they were friends but Bernstein started at The Score in 1995 and Greenberg went to ESPN in 1996. Not sure where the 4 years crossover could have happened.

How long have you listened to the Score? Bernstein began his career as a oratorical populist in keeping with Score tradition. He didn't significantly alter his on-air persona--and the trajectory of the station--until 2002 or so, when he and Boers began focusing on the culture of sports and sports fandom rather than sports per se. This shift in tone and substance also marked Bernstein's transition from an ideological liberal to a neoliberal who manifested his political metamorphosis by cultivating an aesthetic of humiliation--akin to that of early reality TV--on the radio.

All of this is another way of saying that Bernstein seems to have been a very different person in the first decade of his career than he is today.

At the very least, they had a strong professional relationship that Bernstein has mentioned in the past. The way he talks about it, it sounds like Greenber served as a mentor in the early part of his career. The fact that Greenberg wanted Bernstein to jump ship to ESPN and invited him to his wedding isn't insignificant.

Good summary. You nailed it. You think like me more than you would like to admit. Not that you should want to admit it. I wouldn't if I were you.

Now I'm caught up. I want to hear the end again. Man, that Drinky-Terry ending was weird and depressing.

Most of the show was good. But they should have ended it with Bernstein and McNeil with Terry.

Bernstein mentioned it on the air a couple of times that Greenberg wanted him at ESPN. I think Mac did attend Greenberg's wedding as well. This isse seems to mean a lot to you. Believe whatever you want--I really don't care.

I am bothered by statements of fact that are just opinions. I listen pretty regularly and never heard Bernstein say anything remotely like that. Doesn't even sound like something he would say on air.

Correct.

I can't imagine Bernstein ever having friends. I'm sure in his younger days he was an awkward douche but not the awkward douche he is today.

Your opinion that the facts I am discussing are opinions is erroneous. Bernstein used to talk about his career trajectory fairly frequently in his looser, more improvisational, pot-smoking days (which he also used to allude to on the air). His on-air persona has shifted pretty significantly over the past two decades.
