Shitting on Ron Washington is like shitting on Bochy. Both of them have forgotten more than any these cookie cutters will ever know.

Mac has suddenly become very active on Twitter, within hours of Bernstein stepping on his dick. Very transparent. Hope it happens.

He is the only dinosaur I would take time to listen to. But his shelf life (his interest level) is probably six months at most.

What I can't figure out about a post like this is whether:
1) simply following the click-baity times we live in, where the poster is soliciting activity by giving zero context to the image's source (where it would be plenty easy to type in a few words to cite the source while posting the image)
OR
2)the post is just so out of it that it doesn't occur to give their fellow reader some context

Whatever the case, I can't recall how much McNeil said he "wouldn't roll over for less than $_____" was, but I can't imagine there is any sort of budget to offer the guy anything more than a per show flat payment and perhaps access to Abby's old drawers.

That still beats WJOB and trying to sell copies of "The Bears have sucked since the 80s" and forthcoming "Terry's book but Indiana and Chet" at bars in Hammond but I doubt the Score would take him back again.

Wasn’t it $300k? But it’s a different pay era now.

I don't think McNeil could do a show more than once a week without losing interest. Maybe 2 or 3 times a week during football season.

It might be a good idea to have Mac work the Bears pre/posts (are they still at bars on Sundays?) so they can stop overextending Mulligan. Postgame hasn't been a destination since Doug died, and maybe a big character and Score Legend would go a way toward changing that.

I appreciate AM radio is dead/dying, but do they really need to cycle through Medicare aged guys during the one time of the year people may listen?

Is there not one youngish person out there who can host competent Bears talk?

Nope, not a one.

Mac dropped an interesting tidbit on facebook yesterday, namely, how frustrated he was that Nick Shepkowski had all the talent in the world for hosting sports radio but never took it upon himself to get some vocal training, nor did anyone in management assign it to him. It's nice that Mac cares that much, and he's right; Shep beat Les in a trivia contest one time but also sounded like a pimply teen every time he cracked a mic, and he's like my age.

He always sounded resigned to being on the radio, like his mom told him he had to do it so he was just disinterestedly going through the motions. Mac’s comment seems of the flavor of wanting to teach a guy something that can’t be taught.

It's that broken Boers and Bernstein legacy, the idea that the fundamentals don't matter because your authenticity and sheer talent will steamroll the fundamentals. That's how you got college freshman Jason Goff walking out of a broadcasting class when the professor suggested that mumbling and slurring were generally undesirable if you wanted to speak for a living. You have to master the rules to break them.

Disappointed to turn things on today to find Leila and Harris in. Neither of them know how to drive a show. It is so bad. This may cause me to be a 1000 listener during the mid days.

There's a good chance you could listen to all 2 hours of Carmen and Jurko and not remember a single thing either of them said.

Side note: Listening to Bleck and Abdalla (especially the latter) may make you question your will to live.

I wonder when Dan's contract was expiring, we may have to endure 'The Midday Show' until they can make a move or break up Smeagol & Gnomes.

They never invested in speech lessons for Jesse Rogers, either.

Shep may know trivia and have the memory to be knowledgeable, but that doesn't mean he'd entertaining on the radio.

As you said...these are things you cannot teach.

I would put Shep well behind Finfer and Zawaski, both in terms of content and delivery.
