The hammer fell as it should have. I think while still affected in some way the rest of the university and sports not affected as badly as could have been. PSU football might as well be dead. I am ok with that.

At first blush, I can't say I'm terribly satisfied with the penalties. Comes off as more bark than actual BITE.

Let's say that the Chicago Bulls were told that they have to play with 9 players, and are ineligible for the playoffs for the next 4 years. Would you still say it's bark more than bite?

So you are just mad that you were wrong about a year long suspension. Cool.

No madder than you are happy because Purdue doesn't have to be inconvenienced.

And add $60M to their payroll.

The thing is if PAterno had reported it in 1998 and Sandusky been fired and prosecuted and such why should the program had faced sanctions?

Again like with everything if people had done things on day 1 things would have been a lot less bad for them so by protecting themselves they made things a lot worse for themselves let alone the victims since.

Everything could have been prevented if they had reported it in 1998.

Oh, so you are really mad then.

Of course I'm happy that Purdue didn't lose a home football game. They shouldn't have when an option was available that punished Penn State without punishing other programs.

Please don't ever accuse me or anyone else of being biased about college sports. Even with a clear explanation of why this is worse than your beloved "death penalty" you refuse to believe it.

This program is destroyed.

I can't see them being relevant again in my lifetime.

IMO...these are pretty strong penalties and for whatever it's worth,....I feel they are sufficient enough. If they were not allowed to play games this year...I'd be a little more happy, but I'm ok with the sanctions levied.

Okay, someone with a better knowledge of college sports needs to help me. I went to a MAC school so I have no idea how big time football works.

Obviously this is a significant penalty, but really, how much is this going to affect recruiting? At the end of the day, they are still playing Big Ten football. The national exposure they receive from that will continue to be high. The BTN will continue to be a lucrative deal. If anything, they could spin this recruiting wise saying that there will be more eyes on PSU than ever and if you want to get noticed there's a great opportunity to be had.

I guess it'd affect recruiting in terms of depth, but on the top end I could see PSU getting 4-5 stars will no problem.

Big Ten issuing their own sanctions at 10.

There will be mass defections. No big-time recruits are going to come for at least 5 years. That will lead to horrific football. Horrific football will lead to an even more difficult time recruiting.

They would have to throw huge $$ to a new coach in about 5 years to try to rebuild the program. They will have to be fortunate to find the right candidate to pull that off.

They will probably still beat Illinois during this 5 year time every year.

I think he has a point. The culture isn't going to change. As soon as they win their first home game, we're going to hear about THE HEALING POWER OF SPORTS. Not that the victims are being healed, those poor, put-upon Penn State fans are.

I don't think their football will suffer that much. They'll still get fat on Intracoastal Nebraska State A&M for half the season like everyone else does, and stick around .500. They'll just suck in-conference.

Paterno's last win now is in 1997 against Wisconsin when Mike McQueary was his starting QB. Life is funny/ironic

CH, it just reads like someone who's looking for something to complain about.

Maybe I'm wrong.

How long are we supposed to think about the rape and pretend the game of college football no longer exists?

If Bernstein were listening to College Football Radio on XM this morning, his head would explode.

- "NCAA stands for National Communists Against Athletes" - caller
- "I feel bad for the victims but I also feel bad for Penn St. fans too because they are victims as well." - caller

Among other comments.

In Big 10 terms, Penn State football just became Indiana Football.

The death penalty should have been added. People are missing the point by arguing either/or on death penalty/sanctions. Give them both.

I agree with Bernstien. All penalties would have been much more significant if they came from within.
