It’s one thing to agree that analysis helps players and coaches do their jobs better; it’s another (disturbing though telling) thing to believe the analysis is winning the games, aided and abetted by some black dudes mindlessly enacting the plans of our brilliant venture capitalist overlords.

But, as is often the case with the credentialized and the self-mythologizers in any field, personal vanity supercedes ingenuity. There’s a difference between a thinker and a writer and someone who churns out content; just as there’s a difference between someone who effectively includes statistical analysis as one component of a management position within a field in which success is still ultimately reliant on the brilliance of those who play the sport, and a self-promoter whose ambition and arrogance dwarf his actual aptitude and accomplishments. It doesn’t take any complex data or algorithms to determine that much. In these cases, the eye test still suffices.
