Post subject:  8/2: The show is gone, and we can't do nothing about it

Per Chris Tannehill, apparently it's new policy to not play sound drops in the podcast or online version of the show anymore. The show was getting damn near unlistenable before but I managed to catch it every day just for the sound board. Without that, nope. Not going to do it. If they change the policy, I'll consider coming back as a listener, but I'm resigned to this fate.

The show had a good run, but it's over.

what? Why would they do this? It has to sound bizzare with gaps of silence...not to mention that was the humor of the show!

In the podcast there are no gaps, the sound clips are just cut out. For example, the other day out of the blue they just started laughing uncontrollably about Hawk and I couldn't understand why. Then I realized that they had played a sound clip of something he said during the game. Of course I didn't get the game so I had no idea what he said or what was funny about it. Great radio.

He probably said "83". They think that's freaking hilarious.

It probably has something to do with the legality of playing the drops for online/podcasts vs playing them over the air on live radio.

this is insane. podcasts was the only way i listen to the show... and the funny drops are why i would listen to the open for the show each day. what bullshit. does this mean it will take a long time for neutered podcasts to populate for download? lately they've been pretty fast with it

edit: here is the explanation from tannehill

You can thank the incredibly vague DMCA for that, as well as the lawyers scared to death of it. I think its impossible for B&B drop usage to somehow not be considered "fair use", even in podcast format.

(sigh) ...I have to be careful how I phrase this. I know a lot of people are...disappointed over this, and I know you want me to say "I'm just as frustrated as you are," but the truth is that I'm not. CBS lawyers have assessed this issue carefully and we wouldn't be going forward like this if they hadn't. And if this means that their intellectual property rights are now being respected, that means my intellectual property rights are now being respected, and I'll sleep a little better knowing that our company defends all manners of talent and what we create. And if you can't listen to the show we create because you can't hear _________ or _____ on this stream, then (sigh) you really have to ask yourself what it is you're listening for. So no. I'm not with our listeners on this one. And that's okay.

I have to be honest....I start laughing as soon as I read the (sigh) in every one of the Bernstein Playhouse 90 offerings.

Closed out the show telling Laurence how unnecessary NFL training camp is. That is the away at home part. They can get it all done at their practice facility. Probably after they finish their coffee and check their mail. No need for many meetings, practices taking all day long or building camaraderie. Modern smart sports.

One of Bernstein's tricks to make the caller sound dumb(er) is to answer a rhetorical question as though it were a real question.

Meatball: "It feels like the Wannstedt era, it's all stagnant, no talent, no good coaching, no good anything."
DB: Oh, I think there's some good coaching, particularly the defensive coordinator...
Meatball: "Um, well yeah, you're right...I guess John Fox could be the first coach to go to a Super Bowl with three different teams...what are the odds of that?"
DB: "It's not my concern to calculate the odds of it."

I would think a corporatist like Dan would understand the importance of the a team building retreat

Does he really think Theo Epstein wants to see one of his treasured prospects kicking ass across town for the next six or seven years? The tentativeness to trade between the teams is a two-way street.

If something is said/written by Bernstein or Rozner, I have an automatic reaction to take the opposite view point. Sure, it's irrational but that is my gut instinct. I am so repelled by their opinion on any topic that I can barely consider their opinions in an objective light.

Sure, they can do that, but are they gonna let the fans come in to monetize it?
