Sike. It's Dan and Barry. Tune in until you hear one of Barry's awful impressions. |

Leash, I have explained this in bits and pieces in the past. Let me give you a recap: I started reading the Daily Herald as a young lad, mainly following oil prices, politics, and baseball box scores by six years old. To this day, I read the Daily Herald front to back even when I travel via their online virtual newspaper. That is the backdrop. I have grown up with Rozner in my Sports section, and fairly close to my heart as the former Cubs beat reporter. On a side note, I used to love Boers' articles in the DH. Since Barry became an opinion writer for the DH, his true stripes have come out. First, he is an absolute know it all. He will write things like, "you heard it here first" and "say we didn't tell you so" that just grind on you after a while. He also plays major favorites. If you're Sandberg, Maddux, or Tiger you get the DH treatment aka Daily Hummer. If you're Lovie Smith or anything Bears related you get ripped regardless. Even in the Super Bowl season, Barry always attributed Bears' wins to luck or the other team's mistakes. Keep in mind, Lovie had a solid regular season record as the Bears coach. I know many people didn't care for him, but Barry couldn't wait to destroy the Bears after a loss. It's the same way with Bettman and other sports figures. So I created a troll e-mail account. I started e-mailing Barry to bring up many of my complaints. I probably went too hard at him in the beginning. I asked him, "you always refer to we in your articles, does that mean multiple people write your column or are you bipolar?" His response to my e-mails was to ask me if I was one of Lovie's relatives and if he had scored a hockey goal on me that I was still bitter about. It was fun for me. So there you have my completely irrational hatred of Rozner built up over 35 years of DH reading. I actually don't know when he first started writing for them..... |

I too never understood the irrational Lovie hate permeating after wins and losses throughout the fandom. Doug and OB used to fan those flames every post game show, and I'm sitting there like, "Wait, we just won." Lovie was, and is a solid coach. Not an all time great, but far from a bad coach. Best Bears coach since Ditka, and even Ditka's success is debatable with Ryan running the defense. |

The media didn't like Lovie because he played it close to the vest. The players seemed to love him, and you see what happened when he left. They played hard for him. Plus his defenses were fun to watch. He won the turnover battle by a large margin. Barry always ripped him even after losses. Strangle, he would blame Lovie for losses and give credit to the other team for Bears' wins. You can't have it both ways. He would say things like, if the Lions didn't throw that interception, the Bears would have lost. Huh? |

They played a giant part in turning the city against Lovie. |

I think you misinterpreted. |

Lovie > Ditka Ditka was handed the greatest defense of all time, and still only won a single super bowl. Lovie won the NFC with Rex as his quarterback. |

I liked Lovie but it was time for something else after 9 years. Rozner moved to my shitlist in September/October of 2003 when he told us there was no way the Cubs would lose to the Marlins when they went up 3-1. He mocked Cub fans who were hesitant to celebrate "just yet". |

Mike Ditka: 121-95 (1 Championship) Lovie Smith: 89-87 (0 Championships) Wins ... championships ... obviously TWTW ... the winner is clear. In reality, Lovie was a phenomenal player's head coach, particularly when it came to relationships and preparation. When it came to the game itself, including choosing assistants, he was maybe a step above abysmal ... I should need say nothing to defend that, but if I must, all that is necessary is to say "timeouts" and, if you like, "coach's challenge", and that should be sufficient reminder ... that said, I suspect that, somewhere, the ghost of Dougie still mutters "halftime adjustments" to nobody in particular. |

Nothing tops Lovie's "We have the momentum" Lovie drop after making a FG before halftime, to pull with 25 points of Cincy. My buddy and I still reference it every fall |
